Disadvantages of MakeMKV:

There is no option to select the format for conversion.

In the program you can convert DVD and Blue-ray discs only to MKV and that’s it. It would be cool if, for example, the MP4 format was available, which is much more popular. Well, by the way, the program is called MakeMKV, which only means conversion to MKV.

After this period has expired, only DVD discs can be converted without purchasing the program.

You can download the latest version of the program from the official website using the link:

There is also a version for operating system MacOS.

Installing the program is extremely simple, you just need to click the Next button everywhere without changing anything (there’s actually nothing to change there).

To specify the DVD disc that you will convert in the program, you need to select the VIDEO_TS.IFO file from the folder of this disc, which contains all the information about it. It is from this that the program reads the DVD disc and then converts it.

After a few seconds, the program will read the information from the file and display brief information about the DVD disc in the window on the left, indicating the number of chapters, size in GB, video and audio format.

All that remains is to perform the conversion. Before this, you can change the folder for the final (converted) file, since initially the conversion will go to the same folder where your original DVD disc is located. To do this, click the button in the Output folder block and select the folder you need to receive the converted file in MKV format.

And to start the conversion, click Make MKV.

The program does not provide any conversion settings, which is why it is convenient for beginners. The quality of the final file will be the same as that of the original DVD!

The conversion process usually takes less than a minute for regular DVDs. Author Nikita Amosov asked a question in the section Software

Need a DVD to MKV converter. and got the best answer

Answer from Oleg Gorsky[guru]
I tried a lot of converters, each of them has some kind of problem... I decided on Total Video Converter. After you try the converters suggested above, I advise you to try downloading this one. Must be online and already with medicine... Converts almost everything into everything, including sailor suits.
As for the additional question, regarding the appropriateness of the envelope.... Here, first of all, you need to understand for what purposes?? ? Where will it be stored and what will it be played on? The weight of a mkv will of course be much less than that of a vob.... But if you convert it to 1280... most DVD players will not play it.
By the way, Total Converter will allow you to experiment with different sizes, bitrates and formats!
Good luck!! !
PS: You can format FLV with quality and upload the video to your email, it will be like HD quality if the frame size is at least 720x576

MakeMKV in my opinion best program for these tasks, it saves everything as it is in the source file without degrading the quality of video and audio, plus your choice of audio tracks that you need, and subtitles (check the boxes).
Insert a disk or disk image and off you go. My conversion speed in 10-15 minutes mostly takes time. (one file actually took about two hours, but this could be due to viruses on the computer)
P.s.
If you just have vob files, then I recommend cltkfnm DVD image through the Nero StartSmart program through the option DVD recording files. This is faster than burning a disc. etc.
Oh yes, my file size has not changed practically, it will be slightly smaller by 200-350 mega. maybe more different.
