How to enable the built-in microphone on a laptop. How to enable the built-in microphone on a laptop The microphone does not connect to the computer Windows 8

The error when the microphone does not work on Windows 8 occurs quite often. And the solution to this problem is very simple. We just need to go into the parameters sound card and configure the internal microphone. All this does not require special knowledge or time, so absolutely everyone can solve the problem.

How to install driver in Windows 8: Video

Installing drivers

First, we need to check for drivers or check the functionality of the installed software.

In the vast majority of cases, all errors associated with sound recording equipment are explained precisely by the lack of drivers or their incorrect operation.

So let's check if it's installed software.

First, pay attention to the system tray (the part of the desktop in the lower right corner). Click on the small triangle and look for the speaker icon (not to be confused with the volume control icon) or notes.

If this icon is present, it means the drivers are installed. If you cannot find it, then open the hardware manager.

To do this, simultaneously press the +[R] keys. In the window that appears, write mmc devmgmt.msc and click “Ok”.

After this, the device manager will launch. Here you need to find the “Sound, Game and Video Devices” folder. Open it. There should be a Realtek Audio or IDT High Definition Audio entry here (or something else related to audio).

If there is such an entry, open it by double-clicking with the left mouse button. In the window that opens, find the line “Device Status”. If there are errors in the operation of the audio card, then here you will see its code and description.

If there is no such entry at all, then you need to install drivers. You can always find and download the necessary software on the official website of your laptop manufacturer, indicating its model and modification. So, we've sorted out the drivers. Remember that you need to install drivers manually. Now you can move on to setting up your recording equipment.

Microphone settings

To do this, we need to enter the sound card parameters. In the system tray, again look for the note or speaker icon. Open it by double-clicking with the right mouse button. In the menu that opens, go to the “Record” section.

Here you can set the recording volume, recording gain and other parameters. Set the desired options and save the settings.

The fact is that, as a rule, errors when the Windows 8 microphone does not work occur not because of the sound card settings, but because of the settings of the programs in which you use the sound recording device.

That is, the program simply does not know what hardware to use, installing the wrong device by default.

If, for example, on Skype the interlocutor still cannot hear you, then you need to indicate what equipment should be used. To do this, go to Skype settings. Open the “Basic” section and go to the “Sound Settings” category.

In the line “Microphone” you need to select “Built-in microphone system”. After that, click "Save". This completes the setup.

General algorithm

It is simply impossible to describe how to adjust the sound in each program. However, there are several general steps: in any application you need to open its settings and go to the section related to setting up sounds. Such sections may be called differently, but in any case the word “Sound” will be present in the title. This is your guide.

How to set up a microphone in Windows 8: Video

When connecting a separate microphone or using the built-in one, some problems may occur. Sometimes this is some kind of small system glitch that can be fixed by manipulating the settings. However, it also happens that the special board and/or port on the laptop that is responsible for the operation of the microphone, headphones and/or speaker is burned out/damaged. In this case, problems may not only be with the microphone.

First, it is recommended to make sure that you insert everything into the ports correctly. The fact is that some headsets have a double cable, where one end is responsible for the microphone, and the other for the headphones. For such a headset to function normally, the laptop must have two ports, one for headphones and the other for a microphone. Each port has its own designation, as well as cables.

In the case of a regular microphone or headsets, where there is only one wire, the laptop design does not need to provide two separate ports, but there should be a designation next to the port that it is for both a microphone and headphones.

Method 1: Troubleshoot driver problems

If you do everything correctly, but the microphone still does not work or malfunctions, then the problem may also lie in incorrectly installed, outdated or missing drivers.

Usually, Windows 8 itself searches for and installs drivers for new devices from the network, but not always. Additionally, the microphone/headset may come with a disk, flash drive, or document that says where you can download the driver from and how to install it.

If none of this is available, then you can try installing the missing drivers using special utilities. One of these is Driver Pack Solution. It scans the system and then installs the missing drivers. No installation required.

Work with it like this:

Method 2: Enable microphone in settings

Perhaps your microphone is not turned on system settings, so the system doesn't see it and can't use it. Fix the problem:

Method 3: Unmute Microphone in Other Apps

Sometimes a microphone may work fine on a system, but not work in an application. To fix this, you first need to perform all the steps from the previous methods, and then configure the microphone in the application itself. Let's look at this process using the example of the two most popular programs.

Bandicam

This program is designed to record video from the monitor screen. With its help, it is convenient to record the process of working in any program or game. Usually, problems with the operation of the microphone, if everything is normal in the previous methods, should not arise. If they occur, use these instructions to eliminate them:

This is also a very popular program that requires a microphone to be connected, since with its help you can make audio and video calls. Setting up the microphone here is very simple:

Using these instructions, you can connect a microphone to a computer on Windows 8 without any problems.

Setting up speakers and microphone in Windows 8 is in many ways similar to setting up in Windows 7. But before you start, you need to make sure that your audio hardware is working properly, that the cables are well connected, and that there are no conflicts caused by incompatible or damaged drivers.
After this, you can go directly to the sound settings.

1. Open the “Control Panel” menu and select “Hardware and Sound”.
A settings window will open with several tabs. Speakers and headphones are configured in the “Playback” tab, microphone – in the “Recording” tab.

(Picture 1)

2. The “Playback” tab lists those devices that can be connected to this computer. Available equipment is marked with a green checkmark. in this case- these are speakers. Select it with the mouse and go to the settings menu.

(Figure 2)

2.1. When choosing a configuration, you should choose the one that best suits the connected equipment. For owners of two speakers or headphones, the “Stereo” option is suitable. In my case, I need to connect 4 speakers and a low-frequency speaker - subwoofer, so we select the “5.1 surround sound” configuration. After that, click “Next” and indicate which columns are side and which are located in front.

(Figure 3)

3. Having confirmed the selected configuration, click “Finish” and go to Properties.
This menu also has several tabs that allow us to configure:
— sound balance;

(Figure 4)

— select additional effects;

(Figure 5)

— decide on the sound quality (bitrate).

(Figure 6)

The “General” tab shows through which connectors the speakers can be connected to the computer. The most suitable options are marked with green circles.

(Figure 7)

Having saved all changes, we move on to setting up the microphone. To do this, go back to Control Panel/Sound and select the “Recording” tab.

(Figure 8)

It also lists all devices that can be connected to the PC, the active one is marked with a green checkmark. Select it with the mouse and go to the “Properties” window, which also consists of several tabs. The “General” tab contains brief information about the device to be connected and the connector to which it needs to be connected:

(Figure 9)

The remaining tabs allow you to set the microphone sensitivity, connect other devices to the input, etc.
What to do if there is still no sound?
1. Check again whether the speakers are connected correctly and whether they are turned on.
2. See if the sound on the computer or media player is turned off.
3. Use the Troubleshooting Wizard, which is located in Control Panel / Troubleshooting / Troubleshooting Audio Playback
4. If necessary, update the driver.

The built-in microphone in a laptop is certainly very convenient, but it is unlikely to be suitable for creating high-quality recordings.

If you want to record a video lesson or make a voiceover for any video, then you definitely need to buy an external high-quality microphone, you can even have two in one (with headphones).

But let's not go off topic.

So, the built-in microphone in your laptop has stopped working (it doesn’t matter in Asus, Acer or another) and you need to turn it on.

Let's take the example of Windows 7 and 8; we have not yet installed the tenth version; it is too early to install it (as of August 2015).

Algorithm of our actions:

  1. We look for the problem and activate the device;
  2. We make the necessary settings;
  3. Let's check how it works.

Automatic problem solving mode

In operating rooms Windows systems 7 and 8 it is possible to automatic mode troubleshoot various problems, including those that arise with built-in microphones.

And although most often this method turns out to be useless, yet it is with it that you need to start solving the problem, since you always need to go from simple to complex.

What do we have to do:

  • 1. Go to the OS control panel and go to the “Troubleshooting” section.

  • 2. In the next section, click on “troubleshoot audio recording problems.”

  • 3. Next, a window like this will appear, click “Next”.

  • 4. If a message appears that the troubleshooter did not detect the problem, as shown below, then see the “Drivers” section.

  • 5. Otherwise, two ways to solve the problem will be offered, click the first one.

All corrections will be made automatically, and at the final stage you will be asked to accept all changes.

Wait until the process of applying all the fixes is completed and try whether the microphone works or not (read how to check below).

If not, then go to manual mode.

Manual problem solving mode

Everything is very simple. Click on the sound icon on the right side of the tray with the right mouse button.

A window like this will appear.

Go to the "Recording Devices" section.

Activate the microphone by single-clicking on it with the left mouse button and click on the “Properties” button (bottom right).

The following window will appear.

Make sure your settings are set as shown above.

Click the OK buttons one after the other.

In theory, everything should work, if not, then move on to the next section.

Drivers

If the built-in microphone on your laptop recently worked and suddenly stopped, and the methods described above did not help, then remember what software was installed in the near future.

Try doing a system rollback, and if that doesn’t help, then reinstall the drivers. As a rule, you will have to reinstall the chipset and sound drivers.

Take latest versions Drivers can be found on the official website of the laptop manufacturer.

Sometimes you will have to enter the serial number of the product to do this; it is located on the back of the laptop.

Checking the operation of the built-in microphone in a laptop

It's not difficult to do this. Click the start button - all programs - standard (at the very bottom).

Go to the "Sound Recording" section.

A window like this will appear.

You need to press record and give any speech. Stop recording and save the audio file.

This file can be listened to in any player, for example, VLC.

But, as a rule, in 99.9% of cases the problem is solved using the above methods. Good luck.

Computer users face various problems every day, and one of them is setting up a microphone. The problem is somewhat aggravated by the fact that Windows 8 is still relatively new for many, and accordingly, its interface is often incomprehensible. However, the problem of setting up a microphone is quite easy and, which is important for a busy person, can be quickly solved.

Let's start with the basics: first of all, make sure that the microphone is connected correctly to the device. The microphone plug must be located in the connector on your computer where the corresponding icon is drawn. If you connect it via back panel, then the microphone input will be marked with a color that differs from one manufacturer to another (most often pink).

Basic Rules

Your next step will be to call up the charms, which are unique to Windows 8. If you were not familiar with it before, let me remind you that the charms are called by smoothly moving the cursor to the upper right corner. Having done this, you will see the topmost “Search” button, which is what we need.

In the search, type “Sound”, which will bring up a window. It has a “Record” tab in which you can see the current this moment in your desktop computer recording device.

Find the empty area below them and right-click on it, as a result of which two options will appear: “show disconnected devices” and “show disconnected devices”. Make sure there is a check mark next to each one.

After this, check the functionality of the microphone again by saying a few words into it. You can also check the operation of the microphone with.

Connection problems

Sometimes it happens that the computer does not see a microphone connected to the line input due to connection problems. If you can't find another reason for your microphone problems, this may be the problem you're experiencing. Try disconnecting the microphone from the computer and then plugging it back into the correct input. Often at this stage the problem resolves itself, the computer recognizes the device, which means you can already use the microphone.

If the issue still remains unresolved, I advise you to connect the microphone to another PC in order to be sure that the first one is functioning correctly. If it doesn’t work there either, then you just need to replace the microphone with a working one.

By the way, if you connect a microphone via a USB port, be sure to make sure that the microphone software does not conflict with Windows 8, otherwise it, of course, will not function correctly.

I hope that these simple tips will help you understand and resolve the current problem, because setting up a microphone in Windows 8 is quite simple, even if you have never worked with this operating system before.
