Acer Aspire One review: Acer's first netbook. Acer Aspire One: the most stylish of netbooks Preparing a Windows XP distribution kit

As predicted by analysts, and it was obvious to everyone who closely follows the laptop market, after the first wave of netbooks that were deliberately simplified in all characteristics (for the sake of lowering prices), more and more advanced models of inexpensive ultra-compact laptops inevitably began to appear. Only in this way do manufacturers have a chance to interest users who are demanding of comfort and remain indifferent to the idea of saving at the expense of all other characteristics. Indeed, the progress is impressive: for the first Acer One, released two years ago, even the process itself Windows installations XP and a regular office software package was a serious test, subjectively reminiscent of a return to somewhere in the days of 486 processors. Today's models under the same name make Windows 7 "fly", and the one discussed in this review does not give in even to 3D games, which was difficult to imagine just a year ago.

And progress in other components is noticeable: the same screen is noticeably different in quality, the hard drive installed is capacious and has standard performance, without any discounts for a particularly compact class of laptop, time battery life increased several times. Strictly speaking, for such models it is probably time to return from the frivolous term “netbook” to the respectable “subnotebook”. Because in fact, they finally implement the idea of providing the traveling user with a familiar working environment in the greatest possible mobile format. And, perhaps, the only parameter in which they are still inferior to classic subnotes, much to the satisfaction of users, is the price. Well, full-size laptops and desktop computers have since become much more affordable, and users for the most part have already become accustomed to such price levels, so they are unlikely to agree to pay what they used to pay in the old days, and this factor should not confuse marketers!

Design and functionality

The laptop has a rather elegant appearance, as if the manufacturer had already forgotten the original positioning of netbooks aimed at “poor students.” The coating, despite the gloss, is quite non-staining, fingerprints are not noticeable (probably due to the well-chosen combination of colors, so we cannot judge whether this statement is true for the laptop in the alternative black version of the case). But it cannot boast of being particularly resistant to scratches, so it is better to handle the laptop carefully and carry it in a separate pocket of your bag, where it will not come into contact with hard objects, including the power adapter, mouse, etc.

The lid is fixed in the closed position due to the hinge design and, like most modern laptops, opens only to a certain angle (about 130-140 degrees). Noteworthy are the thin sides of the keyboard, so it takes up all the possible space, which is commendable.

The only decoration in the design is the power button, made of transparent plastic with a convex bottom, so that the icon is reflected in it on an enlarged scale.

The dimensions of the laptop are typical for models with a screen size of 10.1″, the thickness is about 25 mm, and the weight is also small (1.25 kg).

Now let's look at the location of interfaces and other structural elements.

Finally, the HDMI port takes its rightful place on netbooks, which, given the predominantly home environment of such devices, can only be noted positively. It’s good that the developers placed 3 USB ports, instead of the common two, and spread them across two sides. There are also no special comments regarding the location of the remaining elements; it may not be entirely optimal from the point of view of left-handers; the placement of the ventilation grille in the middle of the left side panel may seem. It is difficult to please everyone and, which is quite natural, the majority wins in a compromise, but it is still better when this grille is placed at the edge, of course, farthest from the user. On the other hand, the laptop does not have a hot temper; the air flow is small even at increased rotation speeds under load.

Keyboard

Of course, in such a compact case it would be quite excusable to have a smaller keyboard. However (specially checked!): the distance between the centers of the alphabetic keys exactly corresponds to that of a standard desktop keyboard. True, there are no recesses in the center of the keys, but for on-the-go text editing and correspondence, the laptop is still very well equipped. The cursor control keys are in the most cramped position, but this is even good, since attempts to separate them into two rows within a laptop keyboard often end with the user touching these keys when pressing Shift or Enter, because it is possible to separate them with empty space only in the largest ones models, and certainly not in netbooks. And in in this case There is no such problem, especially since the developers tried to adjust the size of the Shift key to what is familiar to desktop PC users. But the height of the top row of function keys could have been made a little larger, especially since these keys, as usual, got the functions of switching the image to an external monitor, disabling the touchpad, etc. - typical commands called simultaneously with pressing Fn.

Touchpad and positioning devices

The touchpad, measuring 3.5 by 6 cm, has the same coating as the body, but protrudes from it by a few millimeters. There is support for commands issued by simultaneously touching the surface with two fingers. There are no complaints about the accuracy of cursor positioning. And the separate keys can be praised for their clear pressing and the absence of any backlash. Thus, this laptop's own positioning device is fine.

Additional keys and indicators

The indicators are located at the edge of the front panel, there are four of them in total, with blue and orange LEDs separated by one, so it will be easy for the user to determine what is being signaled in this moment. There are no additional keys on the case; the corresponding functions are called up by pressing the function keys from the top row simultaneously with Fn.

Screen

The laptop has a 10.1-inch screen with a resolution of 1024×600, LED-backlit and a glossy finish. The screen brightness, even at a 30% backlight level, is already comfortable enough for working in a room with moderate lighting, for example, at home or in transport, but with solar backlight you will have to set it to 80-100%. Visibility, unfortunately, is not this model's strong point. Moreover, if in the horizontal plane the angles are sufficient for solo work (and hardly anyone is going to show a video to a group of people on such a small screen), then the vertical visibility is really a little less comfortable. And even if you accurately position the screen perpendicular to the axis of view, you will notice that along the top and bottom edges the contrast decreases compared to the central area. But the color reproduction, in comparison with a number of “first wave” netbooks, in this case can only be noted positively. It's really nice to see both photos and videos. The main thing is to carefully adjust the angle of the screen first!

Sound subsystem

The speakers are small, but still there are two of them on the body, and not one, which is sometimes found in cheap models. However, in this case they are not even located on the front edge (there is simply no room there, the laptop is too thin), but look directly at the table. Considering that their power is already very modest, with this arrangement the user will be forced to turn the volume level to maximum, even with little background noise, in order to more or less hear the music reproduced by the speakers. It’s funny, but there is a positive aspect to this: the inevitable flaws in the sound of compact speakers in this case are perceived less noticeably, are not so striking to the ears, and if it’s quiet around, then even listening to acoustic music can be quite tolerable.

As for the analog headphone output, here again we can only praise the performance of this component in products from Acer. Maybe in this case, the sound is a little dull and does not cause as much enthusiasm as we deservedly expressed about, for example, Acer Ferrai One or Acer Aspire 4553. But, at a minimum, the noise level is in perfect order, and in general, by the standards of netbooks, the sound is very, very decent, you can safely connect expensive headphones, including low-impedance ones, and have fun.

Configuration and equipment

In addition to two color options (brown, like our sample, there is also black), the Aspire One 521 netbook can be equipped with either an AMD Athlon II Neo K125 processor (1.7 GHz and 1 MB L2 cache), or a weaker V105 model with half the cache size and 500 MHz lower frequency. Volume hard drive can be 160 or 250 GB, and random access memory- 1 or 2 GB. The battery can also have a capacity of 4400 or 5600 mAh, depending on the configuration. Finally, in addition to the standard set of wireless interfaces, including Wi-Fi adapters and Bluetooth, there may also be an adapter for accessing 3G networks of the UMTS/HSPA/GSM frequency bands with support for GPRS/EDGE.

In our case, a senior processor with a frequency of 1.7 GHz and 1 MB of cache memory was installed, but we only got 1 GB of RAM (DDR3-800). Moreover, in this case, expanding the memory can only be done by replacing it with a more capacious module, since there is only one memory slot. For the same reason, the memory operates in single-channel mode.

But I think the strongest component new platform from AMD for ultra-compact laptops is a new graphics core in the chipset. The previous version, as we remember, used a very old core with support for DirectX 9 from the AMD 690G chipset. In this case, the chipset is similar to that used in the platform for universal laptops, only the frequency is reduced. But all the same, considering that netbooks, in principle, are not spoiled with any powerful graphics cores, this fact is very pleasing.

Below are the specifications of the sample tested in our laboratory.

The package includes utilities for Reserve copy(Acer eRecovery), search for updates, manage power saving modes and a large package of “casual” games from Oberon Media, although most of them require paid registration, as well as an antivirus package from McAfee. Like “adult” laptop models from Acer, the disk has a reserve area with an image of the original operating system and programs, so by pressing Alt+F10 on the start screen, the user can activate the OS recovery mode in case of virus infection or any data corruption on the system disk.

Performance

Let's see how the laptop handles typical tasks. For comparison, we took the Acer Ferrari FO200 laptop with a dual-core Athlon X2 L310 processor and MSI X-Slim X410, which is larger in format and does not belong to netbooks, but is interesting because it was used Athlon processor Neo MV-40, which can be called the most netbook-friendly of the entire previous family of AMD processors. And it is this that, perhaps, can be considered the immediate predecessor of the Athlon II Neo K125.

The result to some extent even exceeded our expectations. It was logical to expect that the new product would be somewhere in the middle in terms of performance, but in reality, being single-core, if it is inferior to the dual-core L310 in a set of tests, it is only slightly. A clear illustration of how important the architecture used is, and, of course, the clock frequency!

In games, of course, the result in absolute value is still modest, but in practice, choosing the settings to get acquainted with modern 3D games is quite possible. In everyday tasks, the response speed is also very good, including installing programs, downloading documents, and the fact that a standard hard drive is used is clearly evident here.

The performance of which is quite typical and corresponds to the level of modern laptop drives, including those installed in full-size models.

Battery life

Well, the most interesting thing is yet to come. With such excellent performance by netbook standards, one can hardly expect anything interesting in tests for battery life, especially since the stated time is 6.5-7 hours, which in general is already a common value for models of this class?

However, when testing in idle mode (simulating thoughtful typing or editing text) with the maximum energy saving profile enabled (only the “always on” mode was selected for the hard drive and the brightness was set to 30% level), the laptop worked no less 10 hours 20 minutes. Obviously, this is not a record by modern standards, but from a practical point of view the result is simply magnificent. If a laptop is required for checking email every night, then its resource is quite enough for a week-long trip away from civilization. Well, when it comes to less exotic conditions, then most likely the user will simply put the laptop on charge without waiting for the battery to completely drain.

As for working with the load, unfortunately, this time there was not enough time for testing in the Mobile Mark 2007 program. More precisely, it would be quite enough for one run, if this test itself was not very capricious. So in this case, it popped up with an error after six hours of operation, and there was no time left to charge and restart. But we can say with confidence that if a laptop is taken to watch videos during air travel, then even on transatlantic flights its owner will not have time to get bored. As for charging, a full cycle takes about 3.5 hours, but this is quite acceptable for such a long-lasting laptop, since the user can schedule charging in such a way that it occurs during periods of inactivity, for example, at night.

Heat and noise

Let's take a look at the temperature regime. Data taken from the Everest utility during a load test. In the “load” column for the central processor, the average temperature during the test is given in parentheses.

In terms of heat dissipation of components compared to previous version platforms, progress is also evident. Although for the user, of course, it is more important how hot the body of the laptop itself, that is, its sole, is, and whether it can cool properly if it is on the lap. The first question can be answered with confidence that even demanding users will not be disappointed. User impressions of working with this laptop had to be compiled during hot summer weather, and performance tests were taken at a room temperature of at least 30 degrees. And even in such conditions, the heating turned out to be more than moderate. As for the measurements at an ambient air temperature of 25 degrees, even when running the stability test, the temperature of the lower surface did not exceed 30 degrees, with the exception of the area immediately adjacent to the ventilation grille, which warmed up to 35 degrees. Well, of course, you can put the laptop on a blanket or on your lap, but take into account the fact that the air intake occurs, like most laptops, through the grilles on the bottom. Therefore, if the laptop is running without load or you are in a cool room, the cooling efficiency will most likely be sufficient in any case. And in hot weather and under load, it makes sense to make sure that the ventilation holes are not blocked; however, this is a universal rule for most modern laptops.

From the point of view of noise, the laptop is not a record holder for noiselessness, and absolutely this point will not be a subject for criticism. The fan control algorithm is chosen well: it rotates constantly, and the minimum speed creates noise of about 35 dBA, which is slightly higher than the background noise in a quiet room during the day, but definitely less than what users of most desktop computers are used to. In addition, the second and third speeds (in load mode) increase the noise level to only 36.5 and 37.2 dBA, respectively, which may well go unnoticed by the user, since the change in speed occurs smoothly.

conclusions

In fact, we have before us a model that fully realizes the concept of an ultra-compact computer for an actively traveling user who is demanding of performance and wants to have a familiar working environment at hand. That is, in old terms: subnotebook. No significant shortcomings were identified, and what was most pleasing was the long battery life and the laptop’s very quick response to user commands. In general, it is nice to see a trend that manufacturers have not taken the path of further reducing the cost at the expense of characteristics, but are trying to increase functionality while maintaining a moderate cost. In the future, it would be nice to see a further turn towards serious users, for example, offering a matte display as one of the configuration options, ideally with expanded vertical visibility.

Average current price (in brackets - the number of offers that you can click on to go to the list of those available in Moscow retail) Acer Aspire One 521: N/A(0)

After the Centrino platform captured the mass market, it might seem that, from a configuration point of view, all modern laptops are twin brothers. Although there are, of course, always some differences (the most important is the size of the LCD screen), in general, even laptops of different classes offered the user approximately the same set of capabilities. Plus or minus an additional graphics controller, plus or minus a TV tuner and a web camera. But with the advent of netbooks, it became clear what a truly close configuration is - almost all netbooks on the market have such a similar filling that you often don’t even have to look at the technical characteristics table of the new model. And although performance different models not the same, but as our previous tests showed, by and large, only the performance of the ROM matters - the remaining subsystems are completely identical. And which user will pay attention to a 10-15% difference in certain tests and understand its reasons? After all, netbooks are aimed at the mass user and are positioned on the edge of consumer electronics, in close proximity to communicators, e-books and other similar devices. In other words, most netbook buyers are not the kind of people who will make purchasing decisions based on percentage advantage in benchmark tests. Here completely different factors matter (and reviews of our tests of netbooks confirm this) - the weight of the device, battery life, reliability. Let's risk adding design to this series. Firstly, when choosing among devices that are almost identical in technical characteristics, the user will inevitably give preference to the model with the best design. In the end, any high-tech “toy” also has an image function. Secondly, the share of the fair sex among netbook users is obviously greater than among users of full-size laptops. It’s not without reason that some manufacturers focus on white models; moreover, there are even pink netbooks on the market! However, until recently, all netbook manufacturers tried to make their devices as accessible and inexpensive as possible. The first netbooks were created within the framework of the OLPC (One Laptop Per Child) concept, which limited the cost of a netbook to $100-$200. Accordingly, there was no need to demand special design refinements from them. After all, the development of a bright style, and, most importantly, the high-quality materials necessary for its implementation - all this increases the final cost of the netbook.

The developers of Aspire One clearly focused on the design of the model

However, there are models whose developers have focused specifically on design. One of them, Acer's Aspire One, visited our laboratory. What advantages, besides the interesting design, can this model offer the user?

Contents of delivery

The keys lying nearby will help you evaluate the compactness of the Aspire One box.

The appearance of the Acer Aspire One is impressive even before the netbook is taken out of the box. This model comes in a colorful miniature cardboard box that's smaller than any of its competitors - ideal for retail sales.

The delivery set includes a branded case

However, compact packaging in this case does not mean poor packaging; in the box, in addition to the netbook itself, the user will find:

  • battery,
  • carrying case,
  • OS recovery CD,
  • detailed user manual,
  • power supply and power cord
Looking ahead, we note that all that is missing is a soft cloth for wiping the case. As for the branded case, its quality and appearance worthy of the highest praise. But, as with other netbooks tested in our laboratory, the case is intended only for the netbook itself - the power adapter will not fit in it. As the test results showed, in the case of the Aspire One this is somewhat presumptuous, but more on that below.

Just like most modern netbooks, Acer Aspire One is equipped with a 1.6 GHz Atom N270

The configuration of the Acer Aspire One confirms the words with which this article began - the design and hardware of all netbooks are very similar, and the list of differences is much shorter than the list of identical elements. Just like most modern netbooks, Acer Aspire One is built on the basis motherboard With mobile version Intel 945 series chipset – 945GSE. Intel Atom N270 processor with clock frequency 1.6 GHz is paired with 533 MHz DDR2 memory (one module is installed in the laptop). It is noteworthy that the Aspire One does not have hatches for access to replaceable components - to upgrade the netbook, the bottom panel will have to be completely removed.

GMA 950 graphics core is integrated into the chipset

The graphics core - Intel GMA 950 - is built into the north bridge and reserves part of the system memory for video RAM. The netbook's LCD display has a diagonal of 8.9 inches and a resolution of 1024x600 - these are also familiar characteristics, although more and more manufacturers are announcing the release of models with a larger screen diagonal. But, unlike most of its competitors, the Aspire One boasts a glossy screen finish that visually improves image clarity. However, not all users will like this, because the glossy coating glares and gets dirty easily. A 0.3-megapixel web camera is built into the screen frame. A single 8GB SSD drive with an ATA66 interface is used as ROM - the capacity is modest by modern standards. Apparently, the developers understood this very well, since the Aspire One is equipped with two memory card slots. One of them is compatible only with SD/MMC and, according to the creators, should be used as an additional drive. The second allows you to work with SD/MMC cards, Memory Stick (including Pro) and xD. Communication controllers are represented by a 10/100-Mbps Realtek RTL8102E adapter and an Atheros AR5007EG wireless module, which is presented in the manufacturer's specifications under the name Acer InviLink. But, despite the brand name, its characteristics cannot be called outstanding - it is compatible only with 802.11b/g, and does not support the faster 802.11n standard. And the saddest drawback is the absence in the Aspire One configuration Bluetooth module, because most competitors are already “blue-toothed”.

However, it should be noted here that most users connect GPRS or 3G modems via Bluetooth, and in the future the Aspire One will have a built-in modem for 3G networks - this has been officially announced. There is already a slot for SIM cards - it is located under the battery, which will have to be removed to install the SIM card. However, there is no doubt that along with the 3G modem, the new Aspire One models will also have a Bluetooth module - after all, most competitors have it and the gap needs to be caught up.

Miniature three-cell battery included

The capacity of the included battery is 26.6 Wh

The package includes a compact three-cell accumulator battery, its capacity is 26.6 Wh. Behind additional fee The manufacturer also offers a six-cell version of the battery; according to the manufacturer, such batteries will soon appear in Russian retail. It should be noted that the dimensions of the six-cell battery model are, of course, larger - it noticeably protrudes beyond the dimensions of the netbook and with such a battery it will not fit into a branded case. Perhaps the most interesting feature of the Aspire One configuration is the presence of active cooling. The netbook has a built-in miniature fan, hidden under a round protrusion located closer to the center of the bottom panel. The noise level of this fan is very low, even in a quiet room you have to strain your ears to hear the sound of its operation. At the same time, it provides a relatively low level of heating - the Aspire One is noticeably “cooler” than many competitors. To summarize the description of the configuration, it should be noted that modification AOA110-A was provided for testing. On the Russian market, Acer also offers the 150th modification (AOA150-B), the main difference of which is that instead of an SSD drive, a 120 GB hard drive (Serial ATA interface, 5400 rpm) is used.

Design and ergonomics

The glossy surface of the lid is decorated with the Acer logo

Of course, there are no comrades according to taste, but, in the author’s opinion, the Aspire One is the most beautiful netbook currently available in Russian retail. The glossy case with a mother-of-pearl tint can be white or dark blue - it is obvious that white models are intended for the fair sex, and the blue version will appeal more to men. As you can easily guess from the photographs, a blue netbook visited our laboratory; we will describe the design in more detail using its example. The lower part of the case is made of ordinary black plastic, and the upper part and lid are made of blue varnished plastic. Unfortunately, the glossy surface of the lid and screen quickly becomes covered with fingerprints, but this is perhaps its only drawback.

The lid hinges are decorated with red metal rings

LED indicators are visible both when the lid is open and closed

The lid hinges are decorated with red metal rings, and a few more striking elements are the silver Acer and Aspire One logos on the lid and hinges. On the left side of the hinges there are four LED indicators, which are visible both when the lid is open and closed.

The LED light built into the power button is not annoying in the dark

A green LED window is built into the silver power button - its light is soft and dim, and is not at all annoying in the dark. On the cutting edge working panel There is a silver insert, on the sides of which there are LED indicators that display the operating mode of communication devices.

The netbook is compact and, most importantly, very light (compared to its competitors) - exactly 1 kg. This is partly due to the active cooling system - it does not need a bulky and heavy radiator. The placement of the I/O ports is well thought out and very convenient to use. The right side panel houses two USB ports, 3.5mm audio jacks for microphone and headphones, a main memory card slot and a Kensington lock slot.

On the left side panel there is a connector for the power supply, as well as an analog VGA connector, an RJ-45 network connector, a third USB port and an additional slot for SD/MMC memory cards. There are no ports or connectors on the front or back (the only exception is the sliding switch for the wireless module on the right side of the front panel) - this is reasonable for a model that the user will often work with while holding the case on his lap.

Keyboard

As a rule, it is the keyboard that becomes one of the weakest points of a netbook. Models with a screen diagonal of up to nine inches are equipped with small and uncomfortable keyboards. And netbooks equipped with 10-inch displays, which have slightly less cramped keyboards, are considered by some users to be too bulky and expensive for this type of device. But Acer developers found a middle ground and managed to offer a compact netbook with a comfortable keyboard. First of all, the Aspire One is equipped with a keyboard with 17.5 mm alphabetic key pitch - previously only ASUS 1000 series netbooks could boast of this. At first glance, two millimeters (most netbooks have keyboards with a 15.5 mm pitch) seem insignificant, but in practice the difference is more than noticeable. After all, the size of the 17.5 mm alphabetic keys is much closer to full-size laptops (their key pitch is, as a rule, 18 mm) and typing is, accordingly, much more convenient.

The key pitch is 17.5 mm and the “arrows” are placed in a separate block

In addition, the Aspire One keyboard is distinguished by full-size “arrows” placed in a separate block and a good location of other function keys. Only the key is not too wide - the same as the alphabetic keys.

The manipulator buttons are located on the sides of the touch panel

We also found the netbook's wide touch panel convenient. The manipulator buttons are located on the sides of it, and not under it, as usual. This option is more convenient, since there is no risk of touching the touchpad with your middle or ring finger when pressing the button with your index finger.

Linpus

We have already mentioned the 150th modification of the Aspire One presented on the market. In addition to the type of drive, it has another important difference - the Windows XP operating system. After all, the 110th model, including the copy we tested, is installed with Linpus OS - a specialized version of GNU/Linux prepared by Acer engineers, which has a simplified interface and all the necessary drivers.

Are the makers of the Aspire One trying to emphasize the high quality of the LCD display?

The owner of Aspire One has the opportunity to feel like the head of the Energy Center

The system interface for those supplied on Russian market netbooks are completely Russified. It really is extremely simple - even the most inexperienced users can easily operate the netbook. Unless they get confused in the translation, the main menu items and sections are translated quite correctly, but in depth dialog boxes you can find sayings such as “Enable power management for a specific monitor.” However, the main menus can also please, for example, with “Energy Center”.

But on almost all pages of the interface there is a search window that allows you to search for both local documents and send a request search engines on the Internet - both are very convenient. But, nevertheless, for any experienced user the capabilities of Linpus will not be enough, and the interface will seem too limited. Although, at first glance, everything you need is available, with prolonged use you will definitely discover that the necessary codecs and some programs are missing. Updating Linpus yourself is a hassle even for someone familiar with Linux. So if you are willing to spend time setting up drivers, it is better to install full-fledged Linux, and if not, Windows XP.

* a 16 GB drive was used during testing. Although other netbook models are “terrible on the face” in comparison with the Aspire One, they are noticeably “kinder inside” - they have a more successful configuration. However, the expected dip in the performance of the memory subsystem did not appear - the gap between DDR2-533 and DDR2-667 in test tasks is minimal.

The performance of the built-in SSD drive is inferior to competitors

But in terms of performance of the Aspire One SSD drive, it is noticeably inferior to competing models, and this affects the results of other tests. Unfortunately, the PCMark05 test package had constant failures and it was not possible to find the cause during testing.

But based on the MobileMark05 Productivity result, you can see that the Aspire One's performance is almost equal to the performance of the eee PC 901, demonstrated by the latter when tested on the slower of its two drives (marked with an asterisk). It can be assumed that the results of the Aspire One in those tests that it did not pass will be close to the values marked with an asterisk. And these values are generally less than the maximum performance of the eee PC 901. The Aspire One netbook loses even more noticeably to the eee PC 1000 model.

The Acer Aspire One battery lasts for two hours in the Battery Eater Pro 2.60 test

It also takes two hours to fully recharge the Acer Aspire One battery

However, as noted above, it is unlikely that many netbook buyers are seriously concerned about their performance and compare the performance of individual subsystems. There is enough power to view web pages, read mail and use Skype and ICQ - and that’s enough. But battery life is important for any user, and here the Aspire One, alas, again lags behind its competitors. At maximum load (Battery Eater Pro 2.60 Classic), the battery life was just over two hours. When operating in normal simulation mode office work(MobileMark05 Productivity) the battery charge lasted for three and a quarter hours, and in the most gentle mode (MobileMark05 Reader) – for three and a half hours. Not bad results for a regular laptop, but for a netbook with a 9-inch screen, LED-backlit screen and an economical SSD drive, it’s not enough.

Performance of the built-in SD/MMC adapter used as an additional drive

In addition, we measured the reading speed of the memory card adapter, which the developers recommend using as an additional drive, using the HD Tune program. To do this, we installed a 1 GB Apacer MMC Plus 290X card (maximum data transfer speed - 43.5 MB/s) into the memory card slot. The performance of the adapter turned out to be only slightly less than that of the built-in SSD drive, so given the availability of high-capacity SD cards on sale, it is really worth using it to expand permanent memory.

conclusions

Let's summarize the testing of the Acer Aspire One netbook.
  • Minuses: relatively low performance and average battery life
  • Pros: excellent design, light weight and compactness, excellent keyboard, well-thought-out ergonomics
Demanding users are unlikely to choose this netbook as a road model - competitors can offer more high performance with longer battery life. But if you're buying the Aspire One as a second laptop and don't plan on using it full-time for work, it might be a good choice. As for the author’s personal opinion, as in the case of the ASUS eee PC 1000, I would prefer a model with a hard drive (120 GB is a record for netbooks) to the tested copy and would try to find a high-capacity battery for it. In this form, the Aspire One seems to me to be perhaps the most interesting netbook on the market.

The Acer Aspire One netbook is a budget device with excellent characteristics, one of the most powerful devices in its category. Manufactured by Acer in 2008. The device quickly gained popularity due to its price and parameters.

Specifications Acer Aspire One

An Intel Atom N270 1600 MHz processor is installed inside, the second level cache is 512 KB. The CPU has only 1 core. The FSB frequency is 533 MHz. An Intel Gma 950 video card is also installed. Model north bridge– Intel 945GM, southern – ICH7-M. We are selling a netbook with 1 GB of RAM, which can be expanded in the future by installing a new one with an increased volume (there is only 1 connector on the board). DDR2 bar, 667 MHz.

The physical size of the display is 9″, the picture display format is 16:10. The resolution of the screen module is 1024×600 pixels. The LED-backlit screen reflects light. The kit comes with a Serial ATA hard drive with a capacity of 120 GB. Rotation speed 5400 rpm.

There is also an adapter local network, supporting data transfer rates up to 100 Mbit/s.

The following ports are installed:

  1. 3 USB 2.0.
  2. D-sub (other output to external screen).
  3. RJ-45 (network).
  4. Recorder input.
  5. Headset output.
  6. Memory card reader (SD and 5 in 1).

There are other, more budget-friendly modifications. The difference lies in the operating system. This laptop has Windows 7 installed, while cheaper options have Linux. Also, the built-in RAM is 2 times smaller (512 MB), instead of HHD with a capacity of 60 to 180 GB it is sold with an 8 GB SSD. The second one will work much faster, but the provided built-in memory is not enough for comfortable use of the device. There is Bluetooth support.

A cheaper option should be used when the user will simply read various pages on the Internet or watch videos. Acer's direct competitor is Asus. They sell their budget laptop with more attractive parameters. For example, the Eee Pc 900 has 1024 MB of RAM and 20 GB of SSD storage.

Acer has made a budget netbook that is great for reading pages, watching videos, working with graphics and text editors, as well as for running small 3D games. Light weight and small size allow you to take the device with you anywhere.

HDD

The HDD speed in the HD Tune benchmark is 54 MB, SSD – 22 MB. The speed of Storage Expansion depends on the capacity of the installed RAM. In PCMark 2005 it gives 4129 points.

Battery life

The manufacturer claims a working time of 7 hours. However, when testing in idle mode (simulating thoughtful typing or editing text) with the maximum energy saving profile activated (only the “always on” mode was selected for the hard drive and the brightness was set to 30%), the netbook worked for 10 hours 20 minutes. Charger supplied included. If the battery capacity is not enough, the user can additionally purchase a 6-cell battery.

Conclusion and customer reviews

Acer Aspire One is an excellent netbook that surpasses other devices in its price category.

By the way, read this article too: Netbook or tablet with keyboard - which is better?

Main advantages:

  1. Small price.
  2. Great design.
  3. 2 card readers.
  4. Monitor.
  5. Internal components.

Disadvantages of the device:

  • Short battery life.
  • Difficult to modernize.
  • The device is suitable for those who are looking for an inexpensive but functional netbook. It attracts with its design and quality materials.

Egor, 39 years old, Omsk: “I bought a netbook a year ago, I’m happy with the purchase. It's powerful for a budget device and has a stylish design. There are several minor disadvantages: short travel of the keyboard keys (the buttons move softly, there are no clicks, they are large in size, but flat). The Touchpad works correctly, and multi-touch correctly recognizes commands executed with multiple fingers. After some time, the battery mount began to become loose. I use HDMI every day; it’s convenient to display images on a TV. The build quality is excellent.”

Semyon, 18 years old, Anapa: “I made a full-fledged navigator out of a netbook. Although the characteristics do not indicate support for frequency n in WI-Fi, it was able to easily connect to my router. The signal does not disappear even if you go down 7 floors. I liked the HDMI port, I like to watch movies on TV. I play games calmly, fortunately the performance is sufficient. The bottom cover is secured with 7 screws, so you can easily replace RAM sticks if necessary. The screen and cover easily collect fingerprints.”

Leonid, 23 years old, Yekaterinburg: “I have a noisy processor installed, I don’t regret the purchase. The device is equipped with a full-size keyboard, has good performance, and consumes too much electricity. I recommend purchasing additional RAM for the device. The operating time is about 6 hours. The keyboard is not backlit. The glossy surface did not acquire any scratches during 2 months of carrying the netbook in a bag. HDIM and D-sub do not work at the same time. I recommend this device for purchase.”

Hello, Bonjour, Hello, dear participants and readers Club DNS!

So I matured and decided to write the next review.

In the last review, I looked at a netbook from Lenovo, and far from this area and decided not to leave and consider its competitor Acer Aspire One D270.

    Introduction:

Taiwanese company Acer everyone knows it as a big production company

computer technology and electronics. Company Acer was established in 1976 in Taiwan and at the time of the company's establishment it employed only 11 people. The company was aimed at producing microelectronics for games, but unfortunately they had no success in this area and the company decided to enter the PC market, which was just emerging at that moment. This became a key moment in the history of the company. Today, a lot of computer equipment is being created in Taiwan, but it is the company Acer released the first computer for export and it happened in 1979. 6 years later, Acer releases the world's first 32-bit PC and from that moment on it only moves forward and works on new technologies and improving the quality of its products.

Personally, I have only encountered/used laptops and GSB from Acer, to be honest laptops Acer I really liked it, we'll see how it performs Acer Aspire D270.

As I wrote in my review Sancheas“Son, eat well - you will grow big and strong!”

Sancheas I grew up, I grew up, but Acer Aspire D270 it remains a baby, only 10.1", and we will find out how strong it is as the review progresses.

Unfortunately, the netbook is no longer new and I received it without packaging, so I can’t tell you anything about it.

    Equipment:

    # AC adapter.

    # Removable battery.

    # Documentation.

    # The netbook itself.

There are no bells and whistles, everything is standard. It’s even boring, even if they put in some cookies, you cheapskates.

    Appearance:

This netbook model is available in blue, red, green and black.

I'm lucky, my netbook is in gloomy black, this color is my favorite in similar devices and gadgets, so I'm happy.

    Top cover:

The top part of the notebook is made of high-quality glossy plastic, but it is quite easily soiled. On the top cover there is an inscription with the name of the manufacturer, also in the center of the cover we see the name of the line of netbooks and a very interesting relief surface, reminiscent of a wave diverging from the center of an object falling into the water, I imagined a drop falling into the water, it looks quite beautiful , is not it?

The bottom part of the laptop is made of high-quality matte plastic, the plastic is not embossed, smooth, and the bottom cover is also quite nice in appearance. By the way, the paint with glitter reminded me of metallic car paint.

    Bottom cover:

On the left side of the lid at the top there is a power button for the netbook, which lights up in blue when the netbook is running.

In the upper right part of the bottom cover we also see the inscription “Aspire One”.

On the bottom cover on the left there are 2 stickers that tell us that we have an Intel Atom central processor and a pre-installed operating system Windows system 7 Starting.

    Below are the indicators:

    # Netbook operation indicator.

    # Battery charge indicator.

    # Indicator wireless networks.

In the lower right part of the bottom cover we see the following sticker with the characteristics of the netbook.

The maximum opening angle is quite large:

    Functionality:

Let's take a look at the left side of the netbook and see what outputs/inputs we have here:

    # Power connector

    # LAN network connector (RJ-45)

    # Video output VGA (D-sub)

    # USB 2.0 5) HDMI output

    here are the air ducts,

Now the right side of the netbook:

    # Card reader.

    # 3.5mm headphone input.

    # 3.5 mm input for microphone.

    # USB 2.0 in the amount of two pieces.

    # Kensington lock.

Let's look at the pros and cons of the connectors:

Plus: HDMI on board a netbook is great; you can connect it to a widescreen monitor/TV and watch videos in good quality on the big screen.

    Minuses:

The USB on the right side are close, this will make it difficult to use a USB modem and other USB devices at the same time, I talked about this in the last review when comparing it with the Lenovo S110.

Let's take a look at the bottom of the netbook:

Turning the netbook over, we see a sticker with license key Windows 7, as well as a sticker with standard data about the netbook: model name, where and when it was produced, serial number.

Also nearby are holes for the netbook speakers and holes for the cooling system.

There are also 2 battery latches here, the battery fits tightly, there is no play.

The netbook has 6 rubber feet, 4 large and 2 smaller, the stability of this laptop is average. As I already said in the last review,Lenovo S110 was much more stable.

    Display:

The Acer Aspire One D270 has a wide-format matte display with LED backlighting, the screen is not easily soiled, and has a huge advantage over glossy screens when used in high-light areas. The display diagonal is 10.1", resolution 1024x600 pixels.

The display frame is glossy and quite easily soiled.

The picture quality and viewing angles are quite good, but the display brightness is so-so.

Summing up the display, I will say that I liked it, the main advantage is that it is matte and there will be no glare in the sun, the viewing angles are also excellent, and you can close your eyes to the brightness, for me this is not the most important thing. It is convenient to work with this netbook for 6 hours.

    Camera

There is a webcam in the center of the glossy frame. It takes quite good pictures. For communication via Skype it will also perform its function well.

    Photo from camera:

The microphone here is also not bad, especially considering that this is a netbook. So we don’t have to worry, our interlocutors will hear us, and without any distortion.

Looking at the glossy screen frame, we can notice rubber gaskets.

    Keyboard

The Acer D270 does not have an island-type keyboard, the keys are quite large, the key travel is small, and the keyboard, I would not say, is loud, but in all these parameters this keyboard is inferior to the keyboard of the Lenovo IdeaPad S110 netbook. Still, Lenovo makes cool keyboards, I must admit that.

But there is one big plus for me: this is the location of the “Ctrl” and “Fn” keys. Here they are located conveniently for me, the "Ctrl" key is the outermost one and I am infinitely happy about this. The "Fn" key and the keys that interact with it are highlighted in pale blue. The keyboard is not backlit.

So, we’ve talked about the keyboard, it’s time to move on to the “mice replacement”, the touchpad.

    Touchpad:

In this model, Acer uses the Synaptics V7.2 touchpad.

I have already said that I don’t like touchpads and am used to using mice, even on devices such as a netbook or laptop. But here the touchpad is made of really high quality, responsive, and has the ability to scroll. “Fast. Bold. Sharp as a bullet” is about him. So if the mouse is not at hand, then there is no need to grieve; you can even stroke the panel with your finger in such cases.

"The examination is over, you can get dressed."

    First start:

Let's start the netbook and first of all go into the BIOS.

Everything here is standard and primitive, there is not even monitoring.

Preinstalled operating system on our netbook Windows 7 Starter.

Let's look at the basic information about the netbook and its characteristics:

Performance measurement using the OS or Windows assessment 7.

Looking at the performance rating, you can understand that the video adapter here is weak and that this netbook is clearly not created for toys. I also wanted to say about the impossibility of increasing RAM.

Let's look at the information on the hardware, for this I will use a well-known program CPU-Z v 1.68 x32:

We will also look at the information about the graphics accelerator of this netbook using the program GPU-Z:

The CinemaBench test for the video card gave an error, but it passed on the CPU.

The hard drive in this netbook is 320 GB, its manufacturer famous company Western Digital . WD Scorpio Blue line. Model WD3200BPVT-22JJ5T0.

Let's test the speed of data reception and transmission with a well-known program CrystalDiskMark 3.0.3:

Among the wireless networks, there are Wi-Fi and Bluetouth, let’s check their functionality:

    Everything connected and works great.

    Everything works the same way.

Let's check the temperature conditions of this netbook, for this I will use the program SpeedFan:

temperatures during an hour of Internet surfing.

    Temperatures at 100% load:

As we can see, the netbook is quite cold and does not heat up.

A small video review in which you can see 720p quality video playback, viewing angles, sound quality:

    Gaming Performance:

The performance is about the same as that of the Lenovo S110, which I reviewed in, so I didn’t think it was necessary to upload the same thing a second time, if you’re interested, you can look here. Let's say that this netbook is not for games, in general they are not intended for games, but for work and surfing. But we will be able to play Counter Strike 1.6 with adequate numbers on the server without any problems.

    Battery life:

The test was carried out at 100% display brightness and 100% volume, wi-fi turned on and watching online video in 720p quality.

    Conclusion:

My overall impression of the netbook is good, it is stylish, quite comfortable, light and easy to use, it also does not get very hot and copes with all the tasks that a netbook faces, you can watch 720p video on it without any problems. Surf the Internet, work in simple office programs such as Microsoft Word.

    Pros:

    + High quality build.

    + non-staining matte bottom cover.

+ Matte, non-glare display, good viewing angles.

+ Location of the "Ctrl", "Fn" keys.

    + Good camera quality.

    + Microphone recording quality.

+ Good performance for office and field tasks.

    + Temperatures.

    + Autonomous operating time.

    Minuses:

    - Poor video adapter performance.

    - Glossy, easily soiled top cover.

I express my gratitude to everyone who read this review and the company DNS for the opportunity to place of this material. I was with you TakeOutOnMe. See you again!

    Acer netbooks: review best models

At the same time, few people will be surprised by a reader today; besides, the cost of a good electronic reader is approaching the cost of a tablet computer or even a laptop computer.

    Acer netbooks bring joy

It is the latter that will be discussed in our review today. There are a number of reasons why a device in the netbook form factor can be considered one of the best options for a New Year's gift, we will not list them all, because such a task is not worth it, it is better to take a look at the Acer line of netbooks, and everything will become self-evident. Let us make a reservation right away that we will not consider any single the lineup, but several devices, quite different in functionality, configuration and internal architecture, in order to cover the widest possible range of devices (as possible within one review).

    Acer Aspire One 725

We will begin our review with a netbook, for the simple reason that this device is the most popular among users, and I must say that this popularity is well deserved. This netbook can be called a compact, cute mule among its fellow netbooks, which are often leisurely donkeys.

    Acer Aspire One 725

The Acer Aspire One 725 is built on the AMD APU Fusion platform. Fusion APU series processors are specifically designed to work in netbooks, laptops and all-in-one desktops. Thus, it is easy to guess that installing a processor of this series on a netbook makes the latter a fairly powerful and functional device.

To be precise, the CPU on the Aspire One 725 is a dual-core C-60 processor with a clock speed of 1 GHz and the ability to overclock in Turbo CORE mode up to 1.33 GHz. The Aspire One 725 also carries 4 GB of DDRIII RAM and a 320-500 GB HDD drive.

The implementation of graphic solutions for the netbook deserves special attention. As a graphics card, the Aspire One 725 has integrated AMD Radeon HD 6290 Graphics with 256 MB of dedicated memory. Thus, this netbook is not just a portable device, but also a good solution for hobbyists computer games, because with such graphic equipment, even simple 3D games will run on it without any brakes.

The Aspire One 725 case makes a good impression

In addition, we cannot ignore the visualization solutions used in this netbook. The Aspire One 725 is equipped with an 11.6-inch Acer CineCrystal LED TFT LCD display with a resolution of 1366x768, which is characterized by wide viewing angles, image clarity and color depth. In addition, in certain configurations, the netbook is equipped with a NON GLARE matrix, which increases image clarity and makes the netbook more suitable for use in open spaces.

Ergonomic, full-length island-style keyboard allows you to for a long time work with text or graphics without feeling tired.

Of course, if you consider the Aspire One 725 netbook as a New Year's gift, you cannot ignore its appearance. Perhaps, only one thing can be said here: the design of the device is made with five plus marks. The netbook body is made in two colors: strict black and quite playful blue. The lid of the laptop has a glossy finish, while the wrist area is made of matte material, which creates a certain contrast, and besides, the matte surface of the internal areas of the device is not so easily soiled, fingerprints practically do not remain on it, so the netbook will always look neat.

As for functionality, the Aspire One 725 holds a good mid-high level. This is exactly the case when the manufacturer’s stated characteristics - “devices for daily performance of everyday tasks” - are fully justified. Working with text, images, Internet surfing and use multimedia functions- there are no problems with anything. The netbook works quite quickly, and there is no strong heating or noise from it. Aspire One 725 has wireless support Wi-Fi networks 802.11b/g/n and Bluetooth 4.0+HS.

Interfaces and connectors Acer Aspire One 725

Of course, we should not forget that one of the the most important characteristics such a device as a netbook - mobility. Aspire One 725 is equipped with a four-cell lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 2500 m/Ah. The battery life is just short of 6 hours.

Thus, we can summarize: the Aspire One 725 can be a fairly serious New Year's gift for a person looking for a fairly powerful, mobile device, which you could always take with you, but at the same time not lose functionality due to the form factor.

    Aspire One D270

Next in line is the netbook. Consideration of this model should be divided into two groups, since the design of netbooks in this line is divided into two different branches: some of the devices have a rather strict appearance, enclosed in monotonous colored cases, and some have a cheerful design, with multi-colored bubbles on the lid and touchpad. Unfortunately, there is no space here for such a detailed analysis, and in terms of hardware, netbooks have no differences, so in support of the spirit of the holiday, we will simply keep in our mind’s eye a netbook in a colorful, cheerful case, and, accordingly, consider it as excellent a gift for a cheerful girl who easily goes through life with a conceptual Aspire One D270 under her arm.

The cheerful Aspire One D270 gets into the holiday spirit

To make the life of our imaginary heroine seem even more cloudless, and the operation of the netbook to remain stable and fast, the manufacturers equipped it with an Intel Atom N2600 processor with a frequency of 1.6 GHz. The netbook's RAM capacity is 2 GB. When looking at such indicators, of course, there is no particular admiration, but they are quite sufficient for a stable and generally fast work systems. In addition, it is worth remembering that in this case we are talking about a device that has been on the market for a long time, i.e., it is completely established and has already proven its viability. Consequently, the Aspire One D270 has a decent number of grateful users.

The device is equipped with a rich set of interface connectors: on the left side of the netbook there is USB 2.0, an HDMI connector, a VGA port, a standard RJ-45 and a connector for network adapter. On the right: a universal 5-in-1 card reader, a standard audio jack, a microphone input and two USB 2.0 ports, with a Kensington Lock connector in the very corner. The front and back edges are free of any interfaces. On the top panel, above the screen, there is a black peephole of a webcam with a resolution of 0.3 MP, which provides standard video communication capabilities.

The Aspire One D270 keyboard is quite ordinary

The Aspire One D270 is equipped with a 10.1-inch diagonal screen with LED backlighting and integrated Intel GMA3600 graphics. The maximum screen resolution is 1024x600 pixels. The resolution, frankly speaking, is not maximum, but one thing that cannot be taken away from a netbook is excellent viewing angles. When deviating left and right, the image does not fade or become distorted. The same goes for downward deflection. The only visible distortion appears when the vertical axis deviates upward, which is a characteristic feature for all devices in general.

Another argument in favor of the fact that the Aspire One D270 is a more acceptable gift for a girl is the size of the keys. Frankly speaking, they are not large, especially the arrow block, so the keyboard is not the most comfortable for men’s hands, but for the light fingers of our hypothetical user it is just right. But we had no complaints about the touchpad of the Aspire One D270. The matte surface is pleasant to the touch, the cursor clearly responds to touch. The touch vertical scroll bar does not act strangely or jump around. The touchpad buttons are merged into a single key, the press is tight, noticeable, but without a loud click.

The battery life of the Aspire One D270 is slightly less than that of the previous model, but also quite decent - 5 hours in moderate use mode, i.e., viewing images, working with text, surfing the Internet and other simple tasks.

Appearance is the undeniable advantage of the Aspire One D270

Thus, we have before us a nice little netbook with a full range of necessary functions and a fairly long life cycle when not connected to the mains.

    Acer Aspire One 756

A netbook is quite a “dark horse” and, oddly enough, not many users can boast of being familiar with it. The strange thing is that this netbook comes in a fairly diverse configuration, which should arouse interest among those who like to experiment with hardware. At the moment, the Acer Aspire One 756 laptop is available in the following configurations: based on Intel Celeron 87.887 processors with a clock frequency of 1.4 GHz. The RAM capacity is 4 GB, expandable up to 8 GB via two SO-DIMM modules, or 2 GB RAM.

    Acer Aspire One 756

The storage capacity can also vary from either a 320 GB HDD or a 500 GB HDD.

The appearance of this laptop is quite strict, despite the fact that it comes in four different colors: black, blue, red and silver. The dimensions of the Acer Aspire One 756 are 285 x 202 x 20.95-27.35 mm, and the weight is 1.38 kg. The indicators are quite normal for an 11.6-inch device, but they fully meet the requirements for a device that is always with you.

The netbook is equipped with all the connectors and interfaces necessary for fruitful work, such as a reader and writer of SD and MMC memory cards, stereo speakers, a microphone, a web camera that allows you to record video with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels (like the One 725, this netbook can be equipped with a NON GLARE matrix), communication modules, RJ-45 and a Wi-Fi module that supports 802.11b/g networks.

Acer Aspire One 756 has good screen performance

This model would be quite suitable for a prudent user who perfectly understands the purpose of a netbook, its functionality and capabilities.

    Packard Bell dots

And for a snack we were left with a very interesting Packard Bell dot s model. In general, Packard Bell devices have always been of particular interest among casual users. I think the situation is absolutely the same with this device. Packard Bell dot s is perfect for those who want to emphasize their own individuality without falling into an absurd addiction to flashy colors and kitschy design.

    Packard Bell dots

The lid of the netbook seems to be chaotically cut with transverse textured stripes. Regardless of the color of the cover, and it can be black, white or purple, the netbook body is made of black plastic. On the one hand, it seems that there is nothing supernatural in the design of the netbook, but at the same time it is obvious that the device has a certain charm and attractiveness.

Like previous netbooks, the Packard Bell dot s comes in two different configurations. By choosing the junior model of the Packard Bell dot s netbook, the user receives a device equipped with a 10.1-inch display with a resolution of 1024 x 600 WSVGA type and LED backlight, a 0.3-megapixel webcam, an Intel Atom N2600 processor, a hard drive with a capacity of up to 320 GB and full-size keyboard. It would be more correct to call the netbook's touchpad a multi-touch control panel. Packard Bell dot s carries adapters on board wireless communication Bluetooth 2.1 (or Bluetooth 4.0 optional) and Wi-Fi standard 802.11b/g/n, HDMI port plus a six-cell battery that provides up to 8 hours of battery life.

The Packard Bell dot s design is familiar to many fans of casual products.

It is also worth noting the presence of a full-fledged Ethernet port and a multi-card reader.

The older Packard Bell dot s model has the same configuration of external ports and interfaces as the younger one, but the internal architecture is slightly different. The older model was built based on Intel processor Atom N2800 with a clock frequency of 1.86 GHz and 2 GB of RAM, versus 1 GB of RAM for the younger model. This configuration is naturally more powerful.

As graphics system in the older and lower configurations there is an Intel GMA 3600.

Packard Bell dot s configuration is sufficient

As mentioned above, Packard Bell dot s will be an excellent gift for a casual user in the best European traditions.

    Bottom line

To summarize all that has been said, we can only note that by turning to Acer netbooks you can easily solve the problem of a New Year's gift for people of completely different social status and provisions. The presented lines can satisfy the tastes of almost any user.

Indicators such as mobility and performance will always be valued by users, and Acer products fully meet both indicators, and, importantly, do not require extremely high financial costs, since each of the presented devices can be classified as a budget model, despite the high quality of the products . It is also worth noting the large number of possible configurations, which not every manufacturer provides today. For example, the Aspire One 725 and Aspire One 756 netbooks are available not only with different drives and processors, but also with different screen finishes (matte anti-glare or “glossy”).
