Tablets with retina display. Review of Apple iPad mini with Retina display. The best compact tablet. Connectors and controls

Take tablets, for example. Today the cost of a full-size iPad reaches 40,000 rubles. For this price the user receives excellent performance and for a long time battery life. And, of course, a Retina display with a resolution of 2,056 × 1,536, created based on IPS technology. Perhaps, for many, this is the main advantage of the Cupertino company’s product, and the operating system can be called both a plus and a minus. Let's try to find budget competitors based on this parameter. Where? Where most of the electronics come from is China.

Chinese manufacturers offer a considerable number of tablets with Retina displays. Models are constantly updated, and new brands appear. Today we want to offer you a small selection of the most interesting, in our opinion, gadgets.

One of the most popular Chinese tablets. Compared to the iPad, the “Chinese” screen is a little more faded. The case is made in the iPad style, but looks noticeably more budget-friendly, despite the almost original color and use of metal.

The heart of the tablet became Intel processor Z3736F, which is enough for all pressing tasks. There is also a more pleasant difference: the tablet has Dual Boot firmware. It allows you to choose one of two operating systems when rebooting: either Android 4 or the full-fledged Windows 8.1. A RAM capacity of 2 GB is enough to use the tablet as a replacement for a Windows desktop: photoshop pictures, run AutoCAD, and play FarCry 3 or third “Heroes”. An ideal student device that reboots into a regular means of consuming content on Android (phone functions are available in this OS and power consumption is reduced).

The rest of the hardware tries to improve the tablet in every possible way to at least technically match Apple products: 32 GB of internal memory, two cameras - 5 MP rear and 2 MP front, 8,500 mAh battery. There is only one sensor - G-sensor. Communication capabilities vary depending on the tablet version. In the minimum case, this is Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth 4.0, microHDMI plus standard USB-host and microUSB. There is support for Miracast. The pinnacle of tablet evolution is the 3G version, and in Android the SIM card can be used not only for surfing the Internet, but also for calls.

The average cost on Chinese trading platforms is $226 for the top version and $210 for a simplified version without a SIM card slot. You can find it cheaper in group purchases.

Suitable if you have concerns about a completely unfamiliar brand. The company has proven itself well Russian market. The new product is almost completely identical to the copy of the iPad from Teclast, the differences relate only to the external design (Cube dark blue) and the processor version - Z3735D. In addition, if Teclast is sold with both Android and Dual Boot, then the standard Cube has the Android operating system version 4.4. The battery is slightly smaller than the previous model - 8,000 mAh, but this will have virtually no effect on use. In addition, the weight of the top-end Cube is only 480 grams, which is quite a bit for a device with a full set of sensors, GPS and 3G in such dimensions. Other pleasant features include support for Miracast, operation in cell phone,Bluetooth 4.0.

The cost of the device is 12,350 rubles in Russia or $240 in Chinese online stores.

Available in two modifications, one of which is a device of the previous generation. Due to the sufficient characteristics and successful design, it is still in production and can compete with models from other manufacturers, despite the outdated Rockchip RK3188 platform (but the battery is 10,000 mAh). The more modern V99i modification is equipped with an Intel Atom Z3735D processor and an 8,400 mAh battery. The hefty 590 gram device does not have a SIM card slot, but supports a number of external modems. Other filling is identical to other models presented in our selection: 2 GB of RAM, 16 GB for storing content, stereo speakers, 5-megapixel rear and 2-megapixel front camera, a set of necessary sensors. To expand functionality, the user has access to USB-host and microUSB.

The tablet from Chuwi has the lowest cost - $180 in China for the Atom version.

This model is distinguished from others in this article by the eight-core Allwinner A80T platform with PowerVR G6230 graphics. Otherwise it's top-notch Chinese tablet with everything you need. The filling fully corresponds, for example, to the Teclast level, including 2 GB of RAM, 32 GB of main memory, Bluetooth 4.0 and a microHDMI port. Is it true, rear camera there is already 8 megapixels, there is no 3G module and the battery is only 8,000 mAh. However, taking into account the fact that the only possible OS for the device to install is Android, this is enough to consume content. Moreover, Onda V989 costs a little less

Perhaps it would be better to start Android review tablet with a Retina screen, reflecting that until recently we were sure that a screen with such a high resolution could only be found in very expensive iPad tablets and new Macbook Pro laptops, and we certainly could not imagine that very little would pass time and affordable devices equipped with a unique Retina screen will appear on the market. But all this is very predictable and unoriginal. In my opinion, it is more important to talk about the fact that budget tablet models have ceased to be catching up. Technologically, they are not only not inferior, but in some ways even superior to tablet models from first-tier manufacturers. In this sense, the emergence of an Android tablet with a Retina screen, which allows you to take a different look at image quality, is an excellent example.

Before I begin reviewing the capabilities of the new tablet, I want to say a few words about the features of the new generation screen, which will allow me to make an assumption about the advantages and possible disadvantages of using a Retina screen in modern Android tablets.

The difference between a regular IPS screen and a Retina screen is easy to notice. Just open photos or look at the quality of display of text and illustrations on Web pages and in e-books, and you'll never want to switch to a screen with a lower resolution again.

The Retina display is the brightest display with an ultra-high resolution of 2048 x 1536 pixels. If developers used the physical screen resolution in the interface of their applications, the image would be so small that it would be impossible to make out anything. Therefore, developers use the interpolation mode, when one image point is formed from several pixels. As a result, text and images begin to look completely different than on a regular IPS screen. Rather, the image becomes like a high-quality print. It is for this reason that with the advent of this screen we began to talk not so much about resolution, but about image scale and pixel density. The higher the density, the higher the quality of the interpolated image.

The screen used in NetTAB Space III is identical to the screen in the third and fourth generation iPad. It has a density of 264 pixels per inch (PPI), which is comparable to high-quality letterpress printing. If you compare the quality with a regular IPS screen, you will notice the absence of even a barely noticeable grain. The following photos clearly demonstrate the advantage of a Retina screen over a regular IPS screen with a resolution of 1024x768 pixels.

Regular IPS screen with 132ppi pixel density

Retina display with 264 ppi pixel density

The advantage of the Retina screen is not only the quality of text display. Higher resolution allows for more desktop space and better display quality for videos and photos that look sharper with distinct tones and gradients.

Despite the advantage of a high-resolution screen, one cannot fail to mention the high performance requirements. If the performance of the processor and graphics core is not high enough, there is a high probability that user interface and applications will slow down. In addition, do not forget about energy consumption. Increased processor load may result in decreased battery life. Below we will talk in more detail about the performance and battery life of NetTAB Space III, but for now let’s take a closer look at the configuration and design features new tablet.

First look at iconBIT NetTAB Space III

Externally, the tablet is not similar to either the first or the second Space. It has a unibody aluminum body with beveled edges, but that's not the most interesting thing. According to the specifications, the case thickness is only 9.2 mm. It is thinner than the third and fourth generation iPads. The weight of the tablet was also two grams less new iPad, and is only 650 grams. It is no coincidence that NetTAB Space III is compared with the iPad, which can be called a benchmark in terms of ergonomics. In this sense, the new NetTAB Space III turned out to be no worse.

On the top edge of the case there are buttons for changing the volume and returning. The power button is located on the right. There is also a card slot here MicroSD memory(cards up to 32GB are supported), connectors for connecting an external power source and headphones, a built-in microphone, as well as a USB port for connecting to a computer and external devices. Unlike previous models, NetTAB Space III uses two stereo speakers located on the right and left sides of the case. This arrangement has one interesting feature. Holding the tablet in his hands, the user creates something like a horn from his palms, amplifying the sound from two miniature speakers. If you need to quickly lower the volume, just press your palms harder.

iconBIT NetTAB Space III is equipped with two two-megapixel cameras. The quality of both cameras is quite sufficient for use for video communication on Skype. As for the quality of photo and video shooting, here both cameras fully correspond to the quality of cameras used in budget models tablets.

For ease of use, NetTAB Space III comes with a case made of artificial leather. The case is distinguished by high quality workmanship and a comfortable cover, the design of which allows it to be used as a stand. The design of the case provides easy access to all connectors and ports on the tablet body.

In addition to a convenient case, the NetTAB Space III kit includes a mains charger, a USB adapter for connecting external devices, USB cable, for connecting to a computer, and headphones.

Let's take a look inside...

The NetTAB Space III hardware is familiar to me. If you do not take into account the new Retina screen, the rest of the hardware used in the new tablet is almost identical to the second generation NetTAB Space and is fully consistent with the NetTAB THOR. It is powered by the high-performance Rockchip 3066 processor. This processor includes two ARM Cortex™-A9 MPCore™ cores running at 1.6 GHz and four Mali-400 MP4 graphics cores. The processor frequency changes depending on the load. With minimal load, the frequency drops to 252 MHz, extending battery life. As the load increases, the frequency rises to a maximum of 1.6 GHz.

The tablet is equipped with 1GB of fast DDR3 RAM and 16GB Flash memory. The tablet's communication capabilities include support for Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n with a maximum transfer speed of up to 150MBits and Bluetooth 2.1. A 3G modem is not provided in this model. You can implement support for mobile Internet using any 3G USB modem, but it is more convenient to use.

The built-in battery has a capacity of 10000 mAh. This is the most capacious battery in devices of this class. It is important to note that an external power source with a voltage of 12V is used to charge the battery, which can significantly reduce the charging time of a high-capacity battery.

Real possibilities iconBIT NetTAB Space III

NetTAB Space III runs on Android control 4.1. I didn't find anything special in this Android build. Typical iconBIT set is supported software, there is Play Market and other standard applications. The settings menu includes a standard set of parameters. The only thing you need to pay attention to is the ability to select the screen mode.

The default mode is Normal. In this mode, the screen resolution is reduced to 1600x1200 pixels. In theory, this mode could be interesting not only from the point of view of higher performance and lower energy consumption, but also better compatibility with some software. HD mode uses a maximum screen resolution of 2048x1536 pixels. Looking ahead, I will note that I did not notice any problems with the compatibility of the applications I used in HD mode. As for performance and battery life, there is, of course, a difference. To evaluate the performance of the tablet I use the AnTuTu test, version 3.0.3. Tests were carried out in two screen modes.

The results show a slight decrease in the tablet's performance in HD mode. At the same time, in Normal mode, the tablet’s performance is almost identical to the performance of the NetTAB Space II and NetTAB THOR tablets. For additional clarity, I have added the results obtained for Samsung tablets Galaxy Note 10.1 and Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1. As you can see, the performance of the top Galaxy Note 10.1 was slightly higher than the NetTAB Space III, while Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 has half the performance.

A detailed study of the AnTuTu test results allows us to conclude that the main reason for the decrease in performance in HD mode is the GPU, which needs to process four times more information compared to a regular IPS screen. I wonder how much of a negative impact the performance degradation will have on real-life applications? I use my traditional set of applications, which allow me to evaluate to a certain extent the real potential of an Android device.

First of all, let's look at the video playback capabilities. Here I am interested in the possibilities of playing video from local media, as well as streaming video from network media and via the Internet.

When playing video from a local source and from a network storage device, I use MX Player Pro. Enabling hardware decoding makes it easy to handle FullHD video. Moreover, the tablet plays video both from local media and over the network, using Wi-Fi connection. When you enable the software decoding mode of the video stream, the processor capabilities are only sufficient to play video in FullHD quality from local storage. Over the network, the tablet can only handle video in standard definition. This is quite normal. I've only seen one Android device capable of handling software decoding of FullHD video over the network. This samsung smartphone Galaxy Note II with its all-quad-core processor.

As for the online services IVI.RU and Google Movies, they all need adaptation to a high-resolution screen. The fact is that these services do not know how to take advantage of high resolution, stretching a fairly small picture onto a large screen. But this cannot be considered a drawback of the tablet. This is a disadvantage of software that must be optimized to work on such a high resolution screen.

KARTINA.TV is a very important service for me, providing access to more than a hundred television channels via the Internet. This service is interesting not only for its large number of channels, but also for its support for a two-week archive of programs for almost all channels, a large number of channels in FullHD quality, its own movie channels and a large video library. To use the service, you need a Kartina TV Tablet client and a player that supports playing a network stream. I'm using MX Player.

A rather curious situation emerged here. I noticed that MX Player consistently plays only SD channels and only in program mode. When switching to hardware decoding mode, the program crashes. The only way to watch channels in HD quality is to select the “Hardware+” decoding mode. The situation is unclear to me. Previously, the normal hardware decoding mode worked without problems. After several days of thinking and experimenting with different Android platforms, I noticed that the situation is repeated on various platforms, including the Samsung Galaxy Note II, where the hardware decoding mode works with noticeable slowdowns. The only platform on which everything works without problems is the AMLogic 8726 M6 used in the NetTAB Matrix II tablet, and several older tablet models with a single-core AMLogic M3 and Allwinner A10 processor. So the problem is not in the tablet, but in MX Player, which cannot properly process the KARTINA.TV stream on the Rockchip platform. The same can be said about other software players pre-installed in NetTAB Space III.

Now it's time to launch the games. I use a few old hits like GTA III and Modern Combat 3: Fallen Nation, and a couple of new games Need For Speed Most Wanted and Modern Combat 4: Zero Hour. GTA III and Need For Speed Most Wanted are installed directly from the Google Market, but with the games Modern Combat 3: Fallen Nation and Modern Combat 4: Zero Hour you have to play around a little. There are no special problems here, but some knowledge is required to install them. I won’t tell you here about all the secrets of installing games on an Android tablet. Instead, I advise you to read the following threads on the 4PDA forum, where you will find answers to numerous questions that may arise when installing these games on iconBIT NetTAB Space III:

I don’t like all these cunning methods, and I think that paying a couple of hundred rubles for such a toy is not a problem. On the contrary, I would like to make my contribution so that the developers delight us with new, even more interesting toys. However, until this strange problem with checking tablet compatibility in Google Market is resolved, we will be forced to search alternative ways software installation. For fans of Modern Combat 3: Fallen Nation, I will give a useful link to version 1.1.3, which includes a universal CACHE. This version is guaranteed to work on NetTAB Space III.

The NetTAB Space III hardware has sufficient performance to achieve high FPS even in such complex games. Especially in Normal mode. In HD mode, the frame rate remains at a sufficiently high high level, although occasional slowdowns are possible. It is more important to note that some games cannot be fully used on the Retina screen. For example, GTA III works great in HD mode, but in Normal mode part of the interface appears outside the screen, and it becomes impossible to control the game. The following video clearly demonstrates the possibilities of using a tablet as a gaming platform.

The last question I'm interested in is the advantage of a large screen resolution in traditional applications used on a tablet. Currently, most applications do not allow you to take advantage of large screen resolutions. Especially when it comes to HD mode.

NetTAB Space II (1024x768)

NetTAB Space III (1600x1200)

NetTAB Space III (2048x1536)

I have tried many applications and I can say that in almost all applications the application window area is the same as in 1024x768 resolution. The only advantage of this mode is the better quality of text and images.

NetTAB Space III (1600x1200)

NetTAB Space III (2048x1536)

Surprisingly, the real benefit of higher resolution comes from Normal mode. I don’t know why this happens, but in some applications, such as Google Docs, the advantage is visible to the naked eye.

Despite the fact that most applications cannot take advantage of the high resolution of the Retina screen, I cannot help but note that there are still a small number of programs that today allow you to take advantage of this advantage. One of these rare applications is Yandex.Navigator.

Battery life

To study the tablet's battery life, I used an advanced video viewing scenario. Measurements were carried out in both screen modes with maximum brightness and 20% brightness. All measurements were carried out with Wi-Fi turned on. Taking into account the peculiarities of the KARTINA.TV service, measurements were carried out using hardware and software decoding.

When the brightness is set to maximum, one battery charge lasts for more than 5 hours of continuous HD video playback and about 5 hours when using a software decoder. Very interesting results are obtained when setting the brightness to 20%. At home this is quite enough for comfortable viewing, while managing to increase battery life to 9 hours 30 minutes in Normal mode and up to 8 hours in HD mode. If you want to extend battery life, it is better to use Normal mode. You won’t feel the difference in picture quality, but you’ll get an extra 30-90 minutes. When using software decoding mode, battery life in HD and Normal modes differs slightly.

Conclusion

So, it's time to summarize and talk about the pros and cons of iconBIT NetTAB Space III. From a design point of view, the new tablet did not surprise me. The design and construction of NetTAB Space III is well known to me from some previous tablet models. The only thing I would like to note is the location of all connectors and ports, which ensures comfortable grip of the tablet, and two stereo speakers. Compared to previous generation models, they allow you to get better and more interesting sound.

Of course, the most interesting thing about NetTAB Space III is its Retina screen, which allows us to take a fresh look at image quality on Android tablets. The quality of the text and illustrations is truly impressive. As I said above, once you try the Retina screen, you are unlikely to want to switch to a regular IPS screen. However, it's worth remembering that few apps can benefit from higher resolutions just yet. A similar situation occurred during the release of the third generation iPad. Back then there were practically no applications adapted for Retina, so you could only evaluate the capabilities of the new screen in a browser and a photo viewer. Over time, the situation has changed for the better, and today all applications are released with support for Retina screen resolution. It is difficult to say how quickly software updates for Android will appear. It all depends on how quickly first-tier manufacturers switch to the Retina screen, but so far they are in no hurry.

Above, I noted that a high screen resolution imposes serious requirements on the tablet’s hardware. In this sense, NetTAB Space III came out on top. Thanks to its dual-core Rockchip 3066 processor with four Mali-400 cores and fast DDR3 memory, the tablet coped with all the tasks assigned to it without any problems. I was especially surprised by the ability to run the latest graphics-heavy games. On the one hand, some of these games run great on less powerful platforms, but on the other hand, there was a chance that at such a high resolution I would encounter serious stuttering. But NetTAB Space III easily coped with the role of a gaming console. Speaking about the features of the hardware, I can’t help but thank the developers for installing 16GB of RAM. I've been hooked on gaming lately and I can say that the 8GB in previous models is clearly not enough for me.

In addition to high performance, a tablet with a Retina display should have long battery life. It is worth noting here the use of one of the most capacious batteries, with a capacity of 10,000 mAh. With a reasonable approach to energy consumption, such a capacious battery allows you to use the tablet without recharging throughout the day. As my tests show, in continuous video playback in HD mode with the screen brightness set to 100%, one charge lasts for almost 6 hours. This means that you can watch two full-length films in super quality on one charge.

The last question is the price. According to Yandex.Market, today NetTAB Space III can be purchased for 10,500 - 11,000 rubles. In my opinion, the price for a device with firmware customized for us and, very importantly, with our warranty, is more than reasonable. Out of curiosity, I looked at how much the Chinese equivalent would cost, purchased here and directly with an order from China? On average, everything I managed to find could be bought second-hand for 12,000 rubles. At the same time, there is no talk of any guarantee. What can be ordered here, but with delivery of the order from China, will cost less than NetTAB Space III by about 500 - 600 rubles. And in this case, conversations about guarantees are somewhat murky. At best, you will have to wait two to three weeks to be sent there, some time will be spent on replacement or repair, and another two to three weeks on the way back. And finally, the last option is to order it yourself. In this case, you can save about 1,000 rubles. But even in this case, everything is unclear with the guarantee, and the likelihood of not getting exactly what you expect is quite high. For example, in the basic configuration, tablets from China are sold without cases, while NetTAB SPACE III comes with a case and good headphones.

Today the market is literally flooded with budget tablets. To attract a buyer, you need to have a twist, but you don’t need to be original to do this. bb-mobile Techno 7.85 3G doesn't just look like an iPad mini. This tablet also uses a screen from an Apple device. To what extent can this approach to design and components attract the user in 2014?

We got our hands on two versions of the tablet from the Russian brand bb-mobile Techno 7.85 3G. They are no different from each other except for the processor and the color of the front panel. One has a dual core (model TM859G), and the other has a quad core (TM859B). Well, it will be possible to find out exactly what advantages two additional cores provide to a modern mobile processor.

In general, the impressions from the first acquaintance with bb-mobile Techno 7.85 3G are quite unusual. Imagine that you really wanted to buy the first iPad mini, but you didn't have enough money. You've saved up, but Apple has already released the next generation of tablets, and your object of desire has disappeared from the shelves. And then the seller makes you a unique offer: buy almost the same thing, but at Android based and half the price, and even with the ability to make voice calls!

Design

As you already understand, the bb-mobile Techno 7.85 3G really wants to be an iPad mini. The tablet uses the same screen as in Apple device. We are talking not only about the matrix, but also about the 4:3 aspect ratio. Therefore, the bb-mobile Techno 7.85 3G is more “square” than other Android tablets.

The design of the gadget is minimalistic and in the spirit of Apple. The screen is framed by a frame that is thicker at the top and bottom, but the absence of a branded button, which was a definite accent of the front panel, is confusing.

The speaker slot, which contrasts with the glossy surface, also destroys the harmony in the upper part of the front panel. In a word, you immediately see that this is not an iPad, but the differences are not so great that Apple’s lawyers could not sue the manufacturer if they wanted. However, bb-mobile clearly does not lay claim to Samsung's laurels, so Cupertino will most likely not even know what their design has been turned into. Moreover, 2-3 other Russian B-brands use exactly the same design - the differences lie in the logos printed on the case.

The back panel is visually divided into two unequal parts: a large metal surface and a narrow matte strip, under which the card slots are hidden. Overall, the back of the tablet is better and looks more like an iPad than the front.

Of course, some disharmony in the tablet's design can be seen if you compare it with the iPad mini. Still, Apple did better. It is difficult to spoil Apple's design, therefore, without reservations, then the Techno 7.85 3G itself is very beautiful and elegant. We liked it better in white, but the tablet is also offered in dark colors. At the same time, the user does not have much choice in terms of color: the white tablet has a quad-core processor, the black one has a dual-core processor, and nothing else.

Connectors and controls

Since we are dealing with an Android-based device, you will not find a single hardware button on the front panel. They are made virtual and included in the interface operating system. From the authors of the review I would like to immediately express gratitude to the creators of the tablet for separate button“take a screenshot.”

Above the display there is a camera for video communication and a speaker slot.

The top end is rounded. It has a headphone jack, a microUSB connector and a screen on/off button. The latter is too smooth and does not have a very large stroke, so turning on the display is not very convenient. In addition, when replacing the SIM card again, it almost flew out, which negatively affected the assessment of the build quality. There are still complaints, although they do not relate to appearance.

There is only a microphone at the bottom.

The left side is clear of connectors and controls.

On the right there are two volume buttons. They protrude above the body of the tablet and are easy to feel, but the impression from them is not the best due to the insufficiently clear fixation and the material - light plastic. There is a suspicion that the buttons can easily break.

The main camera is located on the back of the tablet. It is located in the upper left corner of the device, too close to the edge. It's easy to cover it with your finger while shooting. However, on modern devices there is no perfect place for it. Wherever it is, it is still easy to close it and, of course, this will happen at the most necessary moment.

At the bottom of the back of the tablet there are also two stereo speaker grilles.

The top white strip is the plastic cover. It is hooked with a fingernail in one of the corners and can be easily removed. Below it are slots for a memory card and a SIM card. The tablet has a 3G module. Learn more about how to insert a SIM card and microSD card, our short video will tell you:

In general, Techno 7.85 3G is quite convenient. Controls are easily accessible. I would like to note that it is a little wide, so holding it with one hand is somewhat uncomfortable. When you need to press a hardware button, you will need to grab it with your other hand to avoid dropping it.

Scope of delivery

Both tablets arrived in almost square, low-profile boxes done in brown and gray. Most of all, in size, they resemble candy or pizza boxes. The cardboard is very high quality. In a word appearance packaging corresponds to an expensive product.

Thin foam rubber is glued to the back of the lid. It is designed to protect the tablet display during transportation.

In addition to the tablet, the package includes a case made of synthetic fabric with a suede look, a USB cable, charger, an adapter for a USB host (allows you to connect flash drives, a mouse, a keyboard), a headset and a cloth for cleaning the screen. In addition, there is also a protective film that is immediately glued to the screen.

In general, the delivery package pleased me. It contains the necessary accessories, which you always forget to buy.

A more complete picture of the bb-mobile Techno 7.85 3G tablets will be provided by our video review:

Screen

The display is one of the strong points of the Techno 7.85 3G. Display resolution 1024x768 pixels. At the same time, the dot density is not very high - 163 ppi. The 4:3 aspect ratio is somewhat unusual for Android, but everything becomes clear when you realize that the tablet uses the screen of the first generation iPad mini. Accordingly, the user receives bright, saturated colors, a clear picture, in a word - everything that IPS matrices are famous for.

The screen brightness is sufficient to work in any lighting conditions. It has maximum viewing angles. The touch screen surface responds well to touch. There are no delays in operation. However, as the test shows, it only recognizes five touches, not ten, which can be considered the norm today.

The protective film is immediately glued to the screen, which suggests that it is not protected by Gorilla Glass or analogues, but has an easily scratched plastic surface.

Now let's turn to the measurement data. The white brightness of the 2-core bb-mobile Techno is 396.99 cd/m2, and that of the 4-core is 395.76 cd/m2. White brightness is 0.48 cd/m2 for two tablets, contrast is 827:1 and 824:1, respectively. Very good performance for tablets at this price level. The picture should be very contrasty and clearly readable even in fairly bright light.

The color temperature of a 2-core tablet is slightly higher than that of a 4-core tablet. Overall the schedule is pretty smooth. At 20-90% brightness, the color temperature is about 7500K. The display will be just a little cold, but overall this is a good result.

The color gamut of tablets is slightly different. In principle, it is quite good, but does not cover the sRGB space completely. The result is good, but not great.

The gamma curves of tablets are also different. The curve of the 2-core one noticeably, although not critically, deviates from the reference one, but the 4-core one is almost on par with the standard. But still, some overexposure of shades can be observed on the two tablets. On a 2-core one they will be more noticeable.

In principle, the display of the bb-mobile Techno 7.85 3G is good, but, probably, the statement that it is exactly the same as that of the iPad mini would be an exaggeration. Most likely we are dealing with a “rejection” - a screen that for some reason was not accepted for the iPad mini. Or, which is also possible, the tablet received remnants from the first generation of Apple mini-tablets, which became irrelevant after the release of the second version with a Retina screen.

Camera

The tablet is equipped with two cameras. The front one has a resolution of 2 megapixels and is intended for video communication. Its image quality is very mediocre. The main camera has a resolution of 8 megapixels.

The size of the tablet screen allows you to place the camera controls very conveniently.

On the left are buttons for quickly selecting a shooting mode: landscape, HDR, panorama, smile, etc.

On the right are two large buttons: shooting video and taking photos. This solution is not very convenient, since sometimes your finger ends up in the wrong place: instead of a video, you take one frame and vice versa.

There is a call button in the lower right corner detailed settings. The camera allows you to set geotags, adjust exposure, apply color effects, and select white balance.

The camera allows you to change light sensitivity, adjust face recognition, improve the appearance of your skin, and has a self-timer and burst function.

The video camera can record videos with or without sound. Increase recording speed for slow motion effect.

The front camera has approximately the same range of settings as the main one, but many shooting modes are not available.

Both cameras support 4x digital zoom and fingertip focus area selection.

The quality of photo shooting with the main camera is average, but only in good low-contrast lighting conditions.

Although the video has a high Full HD resolution, it lacks clarity. And the colors look a little unnatural.

The front camera, despite the stated 2 megapixels, is intended only for video communication. Even for a self-portrait in the phone book this is not best choice– the quality is extremely mediocre.

The same can be said about video, which, by the way, is filmed only in VGA resolution 640x480.

Characteristics

The characteristics of the bb-mobile Techno 7.85 3G are quite acceptable for modern budget-level tablets. Of course, it would be logical to compare the Techno 7.85 3G with the prototype - iPad mini, but the price difference between these devices is very large, so it is best to compare it with its classmate -. A tablet from a famous brand is sold in the same price range, but has reduced functionality.

2-core bb-mobile Techno 7.85 3G

Both variants of Techno 7.85 3G are based on budget MediaTek processors with a frequency of 1.2 GHz. It should be noted that the white model has a quad-core MediaTek MT8389 chip, and the black model has a dual-core MediaTek MT8312. Processors differ not only in the number of cores, but also in the graphics module.

4-core bb-mobile Techno 7.85 3G

The MediaTek MT8389 uses PowerVR graphics, while the MediaTek MT8312 uses standard Mali-400 MP from ARM. The same applies in .

We can expect that the former will have an advantage not only due to the number of cores, but also the quality graphics system. If we compare with the HP Slate 7, we will find the same ARM Cortex-A9 architecture. HP did not name the processor model, but we can assume that the same MediaTek is installed in the Slate 7. The only fundamental difference is a higher frequency of 1.6 GHz for each of the two cores.

Both Techno 7.85 3G have the same memory capacity. A gigabyte of RAM should be more than enough for modern Android. One can hope that it will slow down a little less. 8 GB of user memory, of which only 4 GB is available, is not so little, considering that Navitel Navigator is pre-installed on the tablet, and, for example, the map of Russia has a size of 1.29 GB. If the tablet is intended to be used as car navigator, it is best to install a memory card. The HP Slate 7 has the same amount of RAM and flash storage.

Tablets have a full set of wireless modules. Unfortunately, bb-mobile only discloses Wi-Fi characteristics - 802.11 b/g/n. The version of Bluetooth and the third generation communication module are not reported. The same can be said about the HP Salte 7.

The Techno 7.85 3G screen, of course, outperforms its competitor - IPS matrix and higher resolution. However, regarding the resolution, everything is very relative here - the HP Slate 7 has an aspect ratio of 16:9, which simply requires it to have a resolution of 1024x600.

Techno 7.85 3G is much more attractive than HP Slate 7 in terms of functionality. The tested tablets have 3G, GPS, and an FM tuner, which is something the American public sector cannot boast of. And bb-mobile is a little thinner.

The battery capacity of the Techno 7.85 3G is very large, however, this does not mean anything if you do not compare the power consumption, which, judging by the display of Bb-mobile tablets, may be higher.

Testing

We will compare both bb-mobile tablets with the already mentioned HP Slate 7.

In the overall standings of the Quadrant Benchmark, we note the victory of the 4-core bb-mobile, the HP Slate 7 is in second place, and the 2-core bb-mobile is in third place. In principle, this could be expected by looking at the characteristics of the tablets. However, if you start to understand the package tests in detail, you will find that in the CPU performance test the HP with a higher frequency was inferior to the less fast 2-core bb-mobile. The situation is also observed in tests for three-dimensional graphics, but in terms of working with memory and storage, and two-dimensional graphics, HP turns out to be the best. At the same time, the 4-core Techno 7.85 3G is the worst in the memory test.

The Rightware BrowserMark browser test repeats the situation of the previous test.

Lingpack is also not without its quirks. In the multi-threaded test, the 4-core tablet takes first place, but the HP Slate 7 with a 2-core chip with a frequency of 1.6 GHz performs worse than a similar 2-core bb-mobile with a frequency of 1.2 GHz.

Graphics tests give exactly the opposite results. In both electopia and Nenamark 2, the HP Slate 7 is in first place. In RD 3D, it lost to the 2-core bb-mobile. Apparently its graphics chip is still more powerful than that of two copies of the iPad mini. Interestingly, it was worse than them in Quadrant Benchmark in 3D graphics. But the most remarkable thing is that 4 cores do not give an advantage to the white Techno 7.85 3G. In other words, not all games are yet capable of using the numerous cores of modern mobile processors.

As a result, we can say that tablets have some parity in tests. There is no clear winner, but we can say that 4 cores are not always better than 2.

In terms of battery life, the tablets show approximately the same result. Formally, the first one is the 4-core Techno 7.85 3G. After our standard load, simulating moderate daily activity of the user, he had 65% charge left. In general, all test participants had very good results.

Also, the tablet manufacturer should do something about battery charging. It charges rather poorly from USB; in addition, the screen and wireless modules consume a lot of energy. With an average brightness level, GPS and Wi-Fi turned on, the quad-core Techno 7.85 3G connected to the computer via a USB cable did not have time to replenish the battery charge.

Games on bb-mobile Techno 7.85 3G

bb-mobile Techno 7.85 3G is quite suitable for games, not everything on them flies, as they say, but it doesn’t irritate with constant freezes. Strong good guy.

  • Riptide GP2: excellent, no slowdowns, everything flies, although it reduces the color bit depth to 16 bits
  • Dead Trigger: good, works quickly, but sometimes the picture becomes choppy
  • Dead Trigger 2: good, works quickly, but sometimes the picture becomes choppy
  • Real Racing 3: satisfactory, playable, but sometimes it slows down
  • Shadowgun: Dead Zone: good, works fast, but sometimes the picture becomes choppy
  • Frontline Commando: Normandy: good, works quickly, but sometimes the picture becomes choppy
  • Eternity Warriors 2: good, runs fast, but sometimes the picture becomes choppy
  • Minecraft: great, no slowdowns, everything flies
  • Trial Xtreme 3: excellent, no slowdowns, everything flies
  • Dead Effect: good, works quickly, but sometimes the picture becomes choppy
  • Plants vs Zombies 2: excellent, no slowdowns, everything flies

Mostly the tablet works well when playing games. Most ratings are excellent and good. True, sometimes the bb-mobile Techno 7.85 3G gets an excellent rating due to a little cheating, for example, it lowers the color bit depth, like Riptide GP2, but not everyone can notice this right away. As is typical for good people, the tablet sometimes has breakdowns - with some games, in our case Real Racing 3, it copes with some difficulty.

Software

Techno 7.85 3G runs Android 4.2.2. The new operating system pleases with a number of improvements, which, however, we have already written about. Therefore, we will not dwell on the interface in detail.

We just note that working on a screen with an aspect ratio of 4:3 is no different from the more common Android tablets.

However, the quick settings control panel has become very convenient. It is separate from the notification panel and is called up with a gesture at the top right of the display. Large buttons make it easy to activate or deactivate the functions you need. To open the notification panel, you need to make a gesture on the left side of the display.

Tablets are distinguished by the absence of non-standard software. True, it is difficult to say whether this is a disadvantage. In most cases, pre-installed programs are not used.

However, Techno 7.85 3G would not hurt office suite, yes and Chrome browser wouldn't be superfluous. But you can install all this yourself.

Techno 7.85 3G allows you to make voice calls. Of course, talking using such a device without a headset is not very convenient, and from the outside it looks ridiculous. However, we can notice that the earpiece is quite loud and the call quality is good. The tablet supports all functionality mobile communications, including sending messages.

The interface of the phone is quite convenient and on such a large display it is even more convenient to use than on a smartphone. For our part, we cannot help but note the convenient buttons

call control: the conversation can be paused, and with one click you can start recording the conversation.

Of the third-party software, only Navitel Navigator is installed on Techno 7.85 3G. First, the user needs to activate the program. He can choose a one-month trial period or buy the full software outright. There are no cards included in the package. They must be downloaded from the Navitel server and paid separately. As we said above, the map of Russia takes up more than a gigabyte, so you should immediately install an additional memory card.

Navitel Navigator interface on this big screen very convenient, however, in order to use the tablet’s functions, you will have to return to the home screen - gestures for calling up the notification panel are not supported. However, the GPS module can be turned on directly from Navitel Navigator. The power button is located at the top of the screen. Some functions, settings and additional services are also included there: chats, weather, mute, battery level, etc. etc.

The program supports the traffic jam service. The user can not only be a consumer, but also create it himself. A special button opens a form for reporting road accidents. Of course, all this only works if you are constantly connected to mobile internet.

Conclusion

bb-mobile Techno 7.85 3G is a pretty good iPad mini clone. It is impossible not to note the good screen, advanced functionality, and of course, good design.

The white version with a quad-core processor has higher performance, but not in all tasks. Therefore, it cannot be said that it is definitely faster than its black counterpart. Interestingly, there is practically no difference in energy consumption between tablets. It is difficult to make a choice between two options, so we advise you to be guided by aesthetics.

Of course, tablets are not without budget shortcomings, for example, the cameras leave much to be desired, and the assembly was a little let down - the buttons kept falling out.

In short, another good budget tablet for the money.

Price

You can buy bb-mobile Techno 7.85 3G with a dual-core processor for 6,500 rubles. The quad-core version will cost 7,000 rubles.

Our test competitor can be purchased for 3,990 rubles, but the downside is less memory and a worse screen, the upside is battery life and support for two SIM cards.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 7.0 is very similar in characteristics, but lacks a 3G module. But this is not a clone, but a fairly new model of a well-known brand. Its average price is 7185 rubles.

ASUS MeMO Pad HD 7 ME173X can offer 16 GB of internal memory, a screen with a resolution of 1280x720 pixels and a 4-core processor, but without a 3G module for an average of 6,000 rubles. But it doesn't look like the iPad mini.

Explay sQuad 7.82 3G is practically a twin brother. This is also a clone of the iPad mini. For approximately the same average 7185 rubles as the Techno 7.85 3G, you can get a 4-core processor, but with a lower frequency, 16 GB of internal memory, the same screen and a camera of lower resolution. But there is a 3G module here. There is also another copy for the same money - Fly Connect 7.85 3G Slim.

As you can see, this market segment is saturated with offers. If you don’t need a mobile communication module, then for the same money you can buy a more famous brand with similar characteristics. Cheaper tablets still have worse data, but the difference is not so critical. Finally, you can look for another iPad mini clone, but it will cost about the same.

Huawei MediaPad M3 8.4 32 GB LTE

Huawei is not shy about “towing its own line” in every product it releases. Even the design of their tablet with a good screen and battery, called MediaPad M3 8.4, is different from most products available on the market. At the same time, the famous Chinese brand installs Kirin processors of its own design in its devices, which allows you to perfectly optimize the shell. But not every user will like its appearance and convenience. Reviews of the tablet pay special attention to its 8.4-inch matrix. Its resolution of 2560x1600 pixels is not the most impressive, but it is more than enough for comfortable work, games and movies. In addition, this allowed the device to provide very good autonomy.

ASUS ZenPad 10 Z500KL 32 GB

ZenPad 10, labeled Z500KL, is a slightly improved version of the old “ten” from ASUS. There are not many changes in the new product, and they mainly concern the installation of an improved Snapdragon 650 processor, which has 8 cores of 1800 MHz each, as well as the addition of an LTE module to the device. Overall, if you want to choose a tablet with a good 10-inch screen and great features, then the ASUS ZenPad 10 Z500KL is perfect for you.

Thanks to a good central chip, Adreno 510 graphics and 4 gigabytes of RAM, the device copes well with any task, including modern games. Stereo speakers provide high-quality sound, but their location is extremely inconvenient, and the volume is not always sufficient. This nuance, the presence of proprietary software unnecessary for many, as well as the lack of a fingerprint scanner and button illumination did not allow the updated ASUS ZenPad 10 to receive the title of tablet with the best price-quality ratio.

Advantages:

  • Performance and responsiveness
  • Matrix quality

Xiaomi MiPad 2 64 GB

The second generation MiPad from Xiaomi is an excellent device at a reasonable price. The price of the model in question with 64 gigabytes of built-in storage is in the range of 10,000-12,000 rubles. This popular Chinese tablet runs operating Android systems version 5.1, but it can be upgraded to version 6 without any problems. The hardware of the Xiaomi MiPad 2 is powered by an Intel Atom x5 processor, 4 cores operating at a frequency of 2.2 GHz. RAM The device has 2 GB, and this is in in this case not enough due to not very good shell optimization. But with its bright screen for reading and watching movies, the tablet is head and shoulders above many competitors. Firstly, the resolution of 2048x1536 pixels for a 7.9-inch matrix makes the pixels completely invisible and the picture simply gorgeous. Secondly, in the sun the screen of a Xiaomi tablet always remains readable due to the high brightness reserve.

Advantages:

  • Hardware component
  • Device autonomy
  • Case design and materials
  • Display quality
  • Style and sophistication

Flaws:

  • Software component

Digma Plane 7.6 3G

If you need a budget tablet with a bright display and a full-fledged telephone module, then the choice will be clear - Plane 7.6 from Digma. This 7-inch model is perfect for those users who want nothing more than to communicate with friends via social networks and visiting your favorite sites is not required from a device of this class.

Among all the representatives of our rating in terms of characteristics and price, the Digma Plane 7.6 tablet is the most simple solution. There is a 4-core chip from MediaTek installed here, operating at a frequency of 2 GHz, only 1 gigabyte of RAM and 8 built-in storage. To install SIM cards, the manufacturer has provided 2 slots at once, which is a very big advantage of the device. But the inability to install a memory card in this model is definitely a drawback. A battery of only 2800 mAh is also not enough for long-term active use of Digma Plane 7.6, especially considering the screen resolution of 1920x1200 pixels.

Advantages:

  • Very low cost
  • Availability of 3G and a pair of slots for SIM
  • Good processor
  • Smooth browsing experience
  • Full telephone module

Flaws:

  • Battery capacity
  • Outdated version Android
  • Built-in storage capacity
  • Lack of memory card slot
