Radeon 5700 hd specifications reviews. Parameters of the advanced solution of this series

Rumors about the characteristics of the Radeon HD 5700 began to appear even before the announcement of the Radeon HD 5800. Initially, they were credited with having 800 stream processors, but later their number “increased” to 1120, or even 1200 pieces. Employees of the Czech website ExtraHardware, who published slides from the official presentation, helped dispel all doubts. Subsequently, all information was deleted, but to the participant of our conference Ysts succeeded . So, it turned out that Juniper is almost an exact half of Cypress:

The inscription at the bottom of the slide allows you to clarify the date of the announcement – the morning of October 13th. Two video cards will be released on this day - Radeon HD 5750 and Radeon HD 5770, their characteristics are as follows:
  • Radeon HD 5770 -> $159, 10 SIMD units, 800 stream processors, 40 texture sampling and filtering units, 16 ROP units, 128-bit memory bus, core clock speed - 850 MHz, GDDR5 memory clock speed - 1200 MHz (effective - 4800 MHz), power consumption idle - 18 W, under load - 108 W;
  • Radeon HD 5750 -> $109-129, 9 SIMD units, 720 stream processors, 36 texture sampling and filtering units, 16 ROP units, 128-bit memory bus, core clock speed - 700 MHz, GDDR5 memory clock speed - 1150 MHz (effective – 4600 MHz), power consumption at idle - 16 W, under load - 86 W.

The 5700 Series is a range of graphics adapters designed for a wide audience, including both casual users and hobbyists. computer games. Having released this line in 2009, AMD continued to fill the market with video cards that support DirectX 11.0.

When the developers released the ATI Radeon HD 5700 Series, they admitted that this line was considered a stripped-down version of the HD 5800, which was also cheap. Still, it was not as successful in the market as competitors from INVIDIA, which released their products in a reasonable price range.

This release of video cards was supposed to have three representatives - 5750, 5770 and 5790. The latter name never appeared on the market for unknown reasons. The manufacturer decided not to introduce this type of video card, but simply transfer it to the next series, increasing the bus to 256 bits.

So, the ATI Radeon HD 5700 Series is capable of supporting an operating frequency of 700 megahertz, and vertices and pixels are processed by 720 universal processors. Although the Juniper GPU was cut down to 40 nanometers in nanometers, which had a dramatic effect on the number of transistors (there are just over a billion of them left), there are also advantages.

An advantage can be considered the presence of a unique radiator design and high-quality cooling. Vapor-X has added its own additions in the form of an 80mm cooler that perfectly cools the entire PCB. The capillary heat removal system operates in this way - it injects a certain amount moisture, which, gradually heating up, evaporates, removing most of the thermal energy. The width of the memory bus remained the same, compared to the previous series - 128 bits, and the memory size increased to one gigabyte.

This representative of the ATI Radeon HD 5700 Series is almost as good as the flagship of the previous generation, namely B graphic card the new generation of stream processor frequencies is much higher, and the number of transistors has increased significantly.

What cannot be taken away from the new video card is support for DirectX 11.0 and the presence of Radeon-Eyefinity technology. This technology does not affect performance, unlike CrossFire, which allows you to connect several video adapters, increasing their frequencies and bandwidth. In terms of frequency, the Radeon slightly overtook its younger brother, increasing the operating frequencies to 1200 megahertz, when the 5750 had 1150 megahertz.

The price indicators are confusing, because the cost of this card is 6 thousand rubles, when for the same performance you can pay 4 thousand rubles for the HD 5750.

Good video card with high performance has proven itself to be quiet and cool in its work. However, many manufacturers, having got their hands on basic version ATI Radeon HD 5700 Series, adding various modifications in the form of overclocking or additional cooling. The last parameter is especially important, since the card will behave quietly even when working with a 3D image.

ATI Radeon HD 5700 Series: reviews

Users who purchased graphics accelerators of this generation noted the low noise level. New games are difficult to run - stable 30 frames in new games on low settings. But many also note that with proper care, a video card can last for many years. A big plus is the presence of a large amount of video memory, which few video cards of that time could boast of.

As for negative reviews, there are a lot of them. Many users complained about frequent changes of thermal paste due to the constant heating of the chip itself. And the complaints also touched upon the issue of cutting the memory bus, which was halved from the previous series, which negatively affected the overall performance.

The price range also became a reason for customer indignation, since in terms of price-quality ratio, video cards from this manufacturer were very different from “green” competitors.

Juniper specifications based on this “hodgepodge”. When analyzing the data provided, it should be taken into account that these characteristics may change before the official announcement of new processors.

So, the HD 5750 chip, the reference video card of which is shown in the top picture, will operate at 700 MHz, and the HD 5770 chip will operate at 850 MHz (some sources report 825 MHz). The Radeon HD 5750 GPU will have 720 universal processors, while the HD 5770 will have 800.

Previously, there were rumors that the HD 5750 and HD 5770 would have identical memory frequencies, however, according to available data, the memory on video cards with the HD 5750 will operate at a frequency of 1150 MHz, while the memory of video cards on the HD 5770 will be 1200 MHz, that is 50 MHz faster. This is not a very serious difference, but nevertheless worth noting. In addition, the HD 5750 with 512MB of memory will appear in the future, but at the official announcement only versions of the HD 5750 and HD 5770 with 1024MB of GDDR5 memory will be presented. By the way, again according to rumors, the memory interface will be 128-bit, which can hardly be considered one of the advantages of future video cards.

The announcement is scheduled for October 13. According to some experts, the Radeon HD 5770 is almost as fast as the HD 4890 or GTX 260 from nVidia, and at the same time it will cost just over €130 in a batch of 100 pieces, which will cause some headaches for nVidia. Video cards based on the Radeon HD 5750 chip should fall within the range of €110 to €120 in a batch of 1000 pieces, but nothing is yet known about the performance of this chip.

In addition to the supposed characteristics of the new graphics chips, photographs of the Radeon HD 5770 and the results of its testing have appeared on the Internet. This video card is made based on the ATI reference design, its PCB somewhat shorter than that of the board, it has a 6-pin power connector. The board has 8 Hynix GDDR5 chips, the graphics core frequency is 850 MHz, the memory frequency is 1200 MHz. Connecting this video card to various devices possible via two DVI ports, as well as via HDMI and DisplayPort connectors.

When tested, the Asus Radeon HD 5770 video card achieved a result of P9103 in 3DMark Vantage, while the HD 4890 received P10312. The maximum temperature of the HD 5770 GPU reached 83°C, although the ambient temperature remained under wraps. In addition to the HD 5770, video cards based on chips were tested for comparison, and.

Radeon HD 5770 Test Results

The characteristics of the AMD Radeon HD 5700 Series, as noted earlier, indicated that these were mid-class adapters. The manufacturer included two models of devices in the line, which were intended for installation only in desktop computing systems. The youngest of them was labeled HD 5750, and the eldest - HD 5770. Key Difference between these two modifications of accelerators is the clock frequency. In the first case they are reduced insignificantly, and in the second they are increased.

Positioning of the accelerator family

The HD58XX line of discrete graphics controllers was the most productive at the time of the release of the accelerators under consideration in this AMD Radeon HD 5700 Series review. The characteristics of such flagship devices made it possible to implement the most resource-intensive tasks associated with processing high-quality images. That is, you can quite successfully use such an accelerator in a graphics station. Also, such accelerators looked very confident as part of the ultimate gaming PCs.
But the HD 57XX line in question was aimed at selling less powerful computers. Therefore, it was inappropriate to use them in graphics stations due to the fact that the performance of these two modifications of accelerators was at an insufficient level. As a result, the only possible area of use for these devices is mid-level gaming computing systems. It was precisely this narrow specialized niche that the solutions under consideration were aimed at.

Low-end device specifications

The characteristics of the AMD Radeon HD 5700 Series labeled 5750 indicate that this accelerator is based on the RV850 microprocessor, codenamed Juniper. This silicon chip was produced using 40 nm technology. It included 1040 million transistor surface components. The microprocessor included 720 stream modules, 36 TMU elements and 16 rasterization components. The graphics accelerator core operates at a frequency of 720 MHz.
The amount of RAM in this accelerator is 1 GB. The type of chips used in this device is GDDR5. The latter operate in nominal mode at a frequency of 4600 MHz. Width of the video buffer connection bus to GPU is 128 bits. As a result, throughput RAM limited to 73 Gbps.

Parameters of the advanced solution of this series

The description of the AMD Radeon HD 5700 Series in the 5770 version indicates the following differences from the previously reviewed junior model:
The number of stream processors has been increased from 720 to 800. At the same time, they already operate at a frequency of 800 MHz.
The operating memory frequency has been increased to 4800 MHz.
All other characteristics remained unchanged. Although the number of differences is minimal, according to test results this allows us to get a real 15% increase in speed and performance. Again, this difference was relevant by 2009 standards. Now the difference in performance between these two accelerator models is minimal.
