Recovering deleted files: review of the Hetman Partition Recover program. Hetman Partition Recovery - recovering data Trying the program and its functionality

Don’t know how to recover data from damaged partitions in full yourself? Do you want to return information from logical partitions after formatting, erroneous disk redistribution, or after the complete destruction of the NTFS/FAT file system structure?

How to restore a logical partition
program:

Starus Partition Recovery

Installing the Starus Partition Recovery program will help you easily cope with your tasks. The entire structure of files and folders will be restored, and the data will be saved in its original form. The product is a fundamentally new tool for restoring logical partitions and resuscitating data after errors in NTFS/FAT operating systems. The uniqueness of the program lies in the ability to reconstruct the structure of data location “from scratch” in case of severe damage or complete absence of the file system.

To simplify the task of recovering deleted data, let’s consider how the program works in two directions - fast data recovery and data recovery from damaged partitions.

Instant analysis

If the media is detected by the system, the logical partitions are accessible, and the file structure of the system is not damaged, it is possible to restore the necessary information in a matter of seconds.

The process comes down to a few simple steps:

  • Choose required disk on the left side of the program, which contains deleted files.
  • In the window that appears, select the analysis type “Quick scan”
  • Upon completion of the scanning process, all found directories and folders will be displayed on the left side of the program. By selecting the required folder on the left, you can view its contents in the main part of the program. Next, select the necessary files and folders and save them to the media or folder we specified.

For convenience, you can also use the following options:

  • the “Search” option to find the required file;
  • the “Filter” option in the “View” menu to see only deleted, only existing or all found files;
  • If the “Preview” option is active, then by selecting a file, you can immediately view its contents in the upper right part of the program.

Recovering data from damaged partitions

If the partitions with your data are not displayed by the system, you need to search for deleted volumes.

To do this, on the left side, select the hard drive on which you want to find the deleted partition, and in the “File” menu, select the “Find disks” option. In the window that appears, specify the type of file systems you are looking for and the search area. All found disks will appear in the Explorer tree, and you can work with them as with existing partitions.

Full analysis

The main stage of data recovery from damaged or formatted disks is scanning selected partitions. After selecting the recovery area, the Analysis Type wizard window will open. If the NTFS or FAT file system is damaged - partitions exist as drive letters, but when reading the directory an error is displayed, or the directory is empty, use “Full analysis” of the disk.

The program will scan the entire file system of the disk and find all files that can be recovered. The process may take a lot of time, however, the data and the structure of their location will be restored in full.

Secure recovery from an exact disk copy

Using a virtual disk image, you can restore the necessary deleted data without worrying about the safety of the original data on physical media. In addition, the physical media can be used further and work as usual.

Another nice thing is that the created image can be used in any program.

To create an image, select the required logical partition or physical disk and click the “Save disk” button on the toolbar. In the window that opens, specify the disk area to be saved, as well as the name and location of the image file that will be created.

Deep Scan

The structure of the location of data deleted a long time ago is not always possible to restore due to overwriting of superficially different information. However, the files themselves can still be found and restored. In parallel with disk analysis, the program searches for deleted files by their signatures (search by file contents). The found files are located in the “$Deep Analysis” folder at the root of the disk and sorted by extension.

Saving recovered data

To restore a scanned partition while preserving its structure, or to restore only some files in a selected directory, select the selected volumes or files and click the “Recover” button on the main panel. You will be asked to choose one of four saving methods:

  • saving on HDD
  • recording to CD/DVD
  • creating a virtual ISO image
  • saving to the Internet via FTP server

With tool Starus Partition Recovery The data recovery procedure for an ordinary user will not be difficult. The Windows Explorer-style interface combined with a convenient step-by-step wizard makes the recovery process an easy task. At the same time, the program is not deprived of options for recovering information at a professional level:

  • The HEX editor built into the program allows you to view the contents of files, partitions or physical disks.
  • Disk Manager - this function allows you to view the location of logical partitions on physical media, taking into account their size and sequence. All disk management functions are available in this window.
  • Selecting the beginning of the file is an option that allows you to accurately determine the beginning of the file (the first sector of its contents).

Remember - the success of recovering your data primarily depends on the speed of its recovery!

Today we use a wide variety of memory devices. And it often happens that data from a drive can be accidentally deleted or lost due to system errors and various problems or simply incorrect actions.

And here is a clear example of how you can accidentally lose data from your removable media. I decided to take a closer look at the system Windows functions and try their capabilities. Since my laptop is imported and the system is in English, certain difficulties arose. And so, unknowingly and partly involuntarily, I started formatting my flash drive. But when I realized what exactly was happening, it was too late and the formatting process had already begun. Fearing for the safety of my data, I disconnected the flash drive without waiting for the process to complete, in the hope that the data would remain safe and sound, but I was wrong...

So, while formatting the flash drive, the device was removed. After this, the computer system does not recognize the data that was on the device and requires formatting it.

This is what it looks like on my computer. Since the computer is running Windows 7, and the machine is from America, the window is in English. The system says this: “You need to format the I: drive before you can use it. Do you want to format the drive?" and offers two options: format or cancel. Let's format the disk.

To do this, we agree with all the presets that apply to your device (if you are not familiar with its properties and the system that is installed on it). If you know the basic characteristics of your device, install it manually. This is what the process of regular disk formatting looks like. Quickly and effortlessly. But sometimes, when you’re busy working, or you’re in a hurry to get somewhere, the process remains unfinished to its logical conclusion.

That's how I found out about this program. First of all, I checked whether the program is compatible with my operating system, since my unit is still dear to me. After reading the description of the program, I learned that the program is compatible with any version of Windows, from XP and Vista to the latest 7 and 8, which are now very common on new computers.

I downloaded the program - it’s quick, since it only takes up 15 MB, and began to figure out how to use it. It turned out that there is absolutely nothing complicated. The program interface is somewhat reminiscent of a regular Windows Explorer. On the left we see the listed memory devices (both removable and virtual, as well as internal computer drives (hard drive). On the right side you can see preliminary files that will be recovered and a list of all files that are available for recovery.

When we launch the program, we see the File Recovery Wizard. It's kind of step-by-step instruction to use the program. You can also call the wizard manually from the main screen of the program. To do this, you can press a special button -

At the first stage, we see a welcome window, and the program also provides the ability to open a wizard every time you start the program. We choose whether we need it or not by checking a box in a specially designated place.

When we have decided whether we need the services of a Master, click “Next”. We will follow the Master's advice.

At the second stage we become available information about devices. So, we see computer hard drives, removable disk and physical disks. I need to restore exactly removable drive with the name HELLO.

On this disk I stored photographs, audio plays and music, documents and presentations necessary for study, as well as textbooks in pdf format, and a couple more zipped files. In general, I really need these files. If the loss of music and photos is not so bad, because I did backups, then the documents are very important, I made them directly on the flash drive (in some ways this is my mistake). But the work that was done took a lot of time, and there is no desire to do it all over again. This wonderful program helped me.

So. This was a lyrical digression, now let’s continue through the stages of recovery. Select the device from which we will recover data (in my case, it is a device with removable media HELLO), and click “Next”.

The program offers two types of scans - quick scan and full analysis. That being said, we can see that a quick scan will help you recover recently deleted files.

It’s worth telling why I can recover files from a flash drive. operating system doesn't actually delete files. When a delete operation occurs, either to the Recycle Bin or from the Recycle Bin altogether, information about any file remains on the disk until it is overwritten by a new one. This information is called a signature. This is essentially the name of the file and its physical address, that is, the place where the file was previously saved. The program will search for recently deleted files and offer them for recovery. Select quick scan and click “Next”.

Literally after 5 seconds the analysis was completed and the results were displayed in the recovery wizard window. So, the program shows that one disk has been found that is available for recovery. Click “Finish”. A folder called deep analysis appears in the window. We can open it and see what happens.

After trying to open the folder, the following window appeared:

We see that files that have been deleted need to be scanned using deep analysis. Thus, we can choose either to scan all files or specific formats that were on the disk and require recovery. I want to restore all files, thereby checking the capabilities of this program. Hetman Partition Recovery also warns that the process may take some time, which makes it clear that it will not last 5 seconds. But the files are important. You can use the “All files” function, but since I remember exactly what files were stored there, I select the ones I need: archives, audio files, documents and images. In this case, you can choose which formats you want to restore. In my case, these are documents in *.pdf, *.pptx, *.docx formats, and just in case I mark *.xls, since I don’t remember exactly whether there were spreadsheet files, which is very likely.

But the program will recover not only documents from Adobe programs Microsoft Office. You can also restore documents created in the Open Office, Star Office and Libre software packages. Various audio and video formats, in general, all the most used document and file formats.

Once we have decided which documents need to be restored, click “OK”. The deep window window disappears, and we see the interface of the Hetman Partition Recovery program, only at the bottom of the window a status bar of the recovery process appears, which looks like this:

So we can track the progress. This line displays the amount of time remaining for scanning, as well as the number of files found at each point in time. We are awaiting completion of the in-depth analysis process.

When the program has completed scanning, we see folders with files that we can recover. There are 8 folders in total, files are grouped by format. I open the first folder with Adobe documents. In the preview window, I can view each document page by page. I also note that the files are displayed by time. That is, the most “recent” ones are on top, and the older deleted files are below. Here is my textbook on practical personnel management. An important book, and I haven’t had time to copy it onto my computer yet. Add to the recovery list. We perform the same operations with the remaining files, adding them to the list (just drag them with the mouse) and see that the list is replenished with files. Don't be afraid that all files have standard names. Thanks to the preview function, you can view everything and select only what you need. We have selected all the necessary files and are ready to restore them. To do this, click the “Restore” button:

Afterwards, the program informs you that the recovery process is complete and that all the necessary files have been saved to the specified path. That is, now I can find my files in the “Recovered files” folder, which I myself specified when saving the files. Click ready and use the files.

After recovery, I made sure that each of the files was restored completely, not damaged and its quality was not affected. All photographs and audio recordings have retained their clarity and quality, all their parameters. Textbooks and files with reports and documents were saved in full, exactly the same as they were deleted. The presentations also retained all the effects that were made for each slide, the formatting and design remained the same, and the settings were not reset.

By the way, we went through the procedure for recovering files from a flash drive. But progress does not stand still, and it can be not only a flash drive, but also a computer hard drive, both internal and portable, camera memory cards, mobile phones, tablets, and even DVRs. All these devices are widely popular and important data can be lost at any time.

I will also say that I read that data can be recovered not only from devices with the FAT 32 system type, which is used on my drive. It can also be any other FAT file system, as well as NTFS, when working with which several more data recovery functions become available that are not stored on devices with the FAT 32 system.

In general, I can say that I am very pleased with the results and work of the program. The recovery procedure went quickly, no special knowledge in the field of IT technologies was required, there were no overly complex questions or operations that I could not figure out on my own. Everything is extremely simple. Therefore, I recommend this utility for recovering important documents - Hetman Partition Recovery.

The program is universal data recovery program, capable of eliminating even severe damage to the system structure, restoring data after accidental formatting of electronic media, returning files after an emergency system reboot, virus attack, system or hardware failure. All information stored on the hard drive is restored in full, preserving the original partition structure.

The program interface is almost identical to appearance Windows Explorer is laconic, simple, literally intuitive. Thanks to the built-in “Recovery Wizard,” anyone, even a person who is not experienced in computer matters, can reconstruct the system and return all missing files even after extensive damage. The recovery process is fully automated. The result is no worse than the result of “manual recovery”.

If the situation does not seem hopeless, that is, you want to resurrect literally just lost data, a simple scan and quick recovery is enough. A couple of minutes - that's all necessary files back in place.

If the damage is so serious that you have already begun to mentally say goodbye to your backbreaking work electronically, it is better to use the “deep analysis” algorithm. In this mode, it is capable of restoring the system and all its contents literally from scratch.

The program will carefully analyze even small pieces of data preserved in heavily damaged and re-sectored partitions, and based on them, it will recreate the complete contents of files, folders, and disks. By the way, such an innovative algorithm for the operation of programs for recovering electronic information (search by file signatures) is today truly the most effective and reliable way to reconstruct and restore damaged data. Its use allows you to recover data even where other programs cannot cope with the task.

The program has a built-in quite interesting function - creating a virtual disk image. There was a failure, you need to recover missing files, but don’t have time for it now? You simply create a virtual image of the current disk or flash drive and calmly work with the media, without any fear of damaging the remaining information stored on it. And when time appears, run the program and restore all the necessary data from the image.

The preview function, standard for this type of program, allows you to familiarize yourself with the contents of recovered electronic documents before saving them.

The function is available in the demo version of the program, that is, you have the opportunity to evaluate how effective the program will be in your difficult case, even before registering.

Briefly about the features of the program in facts:

  • Recovers data from all types of HDD and SSD drives, USB flash drives, memory cards of digital cameras and mobile phones, and other types of media, regardless of their size or brand (more than a hundred types and types of media have been tested to ensure perfect compatibility);
  • Recovers data from formatted repartitioned disks, damaged volumes;
  • Restores severely damaged disk structures, allows you to recover information from redistributed and inaccessible disks;
  • Reconstructs damaged volumes and restores severely damaged system structures from scratch;
  • Supports working with virtual disk images for even more secure recovery;
  • Compatible with all Windows versions (Microsoft Windows XP, 2003, Vista, 2008 Server and Windows 7), most popular file systems including ExFAT / FAT 16 / FAT 32 / NTFS / NTFS 4 / NTFS5;
  • Recovery Microsoft documents Office (including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.), PDF files, databases, digital photographs, video and audio files in all formats.

Any data recovery problems can be solved - the main thing is to use the right tool to overcome them!

A step-by-step wizard makes the data recovery process easier for the user. All the complexity and technical details of the method of data recovery from hard drive remains inside and does not touch the user. It will not be difficult for you, following the instructions of the wizard, to find, restore and save important information from the disk

Step 1: Selecting a disk for data recovery

You must specify the logical drive from which data was deleted. Select a physical storage medium or use "Search for sections" provided that data from the disk was lost as a result of deletion, creation of new logical partitions, or formatting of the disk.

Virtual image

In order to protect yourself from unintentionally overwriting deleted files, and restore data to the same disk, you need to create a virtual copy of the disk and restore data from the created virtual image.

Creating an image

In the main menu of the program, find the “File” item and select the item "Create virtual disk» . In the dialog box that opens, you will need to choose either to create an image of the entire media, or to specify the starting sector and disk size, depending on how much data you want to recover. To save disk space, the program can compress data on disk. You should enter the name of the file with the future image and click on the “Save” button.

Using the image

To add a saved image to the folder tree, you need to select the main menu item “Tools”, and then the item "Mount disk". Next, specify the full path to the file with the saved image. After you see that the utility has added the image to the folder tree, you can start working with it, namely, analyzing and searching for deleted information. You also have the opportunity to use it on a laptop or any other computer.

Recovering deleted partitions

The utility finds logical drives that have been deleted and makes it possible to continue searching for files deleted from them and restoring the necessary data. This allows you to significantly save time on analysis of hard disk. To search for partitions, you must select the device in the folder tree and select “File” – “Find disks” in the main menu. Next, you need to specify the file system type of the partition to be searched, as well as its intended location on the device. We recommend performing a complete disk analysis and searching for all possible file systems. If the search parameters are not specified, the program will launch a quick search for sections by default. In order to find more partitions, after completing the disk analysis, you will need to run a full analysis of the device. All partitions that are found as a result of the search will be added to the directory tree and will be available for future scans.

Step 2: Selecting a disk recovery method

To recover data that has been deleted, you must select a recovery method. The program supports two different ways data analysis for recovery. Each of these methods has its own advantages and disadvantages. Let's take a closer look at these methods.

Quick Scan

Way "Quick Scan" speaks for itself. Its advantage is that it can analyze the disk in a matter of seconds. This method is applicable to searching for files that were deleted using the keyboard shortcut “Shift” + “Delete”, as well as if the Windows Recycle Bin was emptied. The second method - “Full analysis” takes much more time. The larger the disk capacity, the longer the “Full Analysis” will take. However, it is recommended to use the “Full analysis” method if the data was not deleted using the methods indicated above.

Full analysis

“Full analysis” - this method uses all possible search algorithms for lost data embedded in the program and makes it possible to recover data that was deleted in a variety of ways. This method can be used to recover files from damaged disks, data lost as a result of formatting, information lost as a result of creating new logical partitions and for any other reason.

Step 3: Finish the recovery process

The program begins searching for lost files. The data recovery process takes some time. The utility calculates the time until the end of the recovery process and indicates the number of disks, files and folders found. You need to wait until the analysis of the lost data is completed and click on the “Finish” button.

Analysis process

The program will display all found files and folders on the disk as a result of the search. The files will appear in the same folders in which they were located before they were deleted. The data will be displayed in the same form as in the Windows Explorer program. Objects that have been deleted will be marked with a red cross. All available types of information display, namely: large and regular icons, page thumbnails, tables, lists, tiles, are supported by the program. You can sort recovered files by name, size, creation date or editing date, as well as file type. After completing the analysis, the user has the opportunity to repeat the search for files by name, size, date of creation or modification of files.

“$Deleted and Found” Folder and “$Deep Analysis” Folder

As a result of the completion of the procedure, two sections are created: section "$Deleted and Found", which contains files and folders, with an undefined location and a partition "$Deep Analysis", which will contain files that meet certain search criteria. A few words about this criterion. The utility searches for deleted files not only from file tables, but also searches for files by their contents. As a result of a comprehensive analysis of the contents of the disk, the program finds signatures responsible for the beginning and end of the file (for example, the beginning of a file with the PSD extension will be the combination of bytes “8B PS”). To folder "$Deep Analysis" all files found in this way are included. If you do not find the files in their original location, it is recommended to check the section "$Deleted and Found".

Preview

The program interface displays files found for recovery in the same form as you are used to seeing them in Windows program"Conductor" . The user sees them in the same folders in which they were located before they were deleted. Using the utility, viewing the contents of files, you can select and save only the data that you need for recovery.

Viewing file contents

To make a final decision about data recovery, you can view the contents of the file before recovery. The program supports displaying data in various formats. You can view the contents of compressed archives, text format, spreadsheets and images, video and audio, and even executable files. In total, the program supports viewing more than 200 different formats. The fact that you were able to view the contents of the file in preview guarantees data recovery after registering the program.

Selecting files to save

The stage of saving recovered files requires careful attention. If you are saving files that were deleted from the same folder, you should go to this folder, select the desired files from the general list of files and then go to the main menu “File” - “Recover”. If you save files from different folders, you should drag and drop all the data that you are going to restore into "Recovery cart". "Recovery Basket" is located in the lower right corner of the program. And for final data recovery, you should use the “Restore” button located in the Recycle Bin.

Step 4: Saving data recovered from hard drive

Recovered files can be saved in any way convenient for you. The program provides the ability to save data to a folder on your hard drive, burn it to a CD or DVD, and you can also upload the saved data to an FTP server or create an ISO image of the data.

Saving recovered data to your hard drive

To save recovered files to your hard drive, you must specify the folder on the disk where you are going to save the data. If you want to leave the current folder structure unchanged and save the recovered data in the folders in which they were previously located, you should enable the corresponding switches. The program also allows you to perform ADS saving (from the English Alternate Data Streams) and replace those characters that were lost in the file name when it was deleted. Usually, when deleting a file, the first letter in the file name is destroyed, but there are cases when more characters in the name are lost.

Burning a CD or DVD

If you decide to save the recovered data by burning it to a CD or DVD, then in this case the program provides a convenient interface for this procedure. You will be able to select the drive label, speed and file system to write the recovered data to. Next, you will need to select the drive through which recording will be carried out, and also indicate the parameters that are necessary for recording, or agree with the parameters offered to you by default by the program. Then click “Next”. The program supports multi-session disc recording. You can keep files in the same folders from which they were deleted by selecting the option "Restore folder structure". If this option is not selected, all files will be saved in one directory.

Creating an ISO image with files

If you decide to save the recovered data using a virtual ISO image, you will need to specify the full name of the image file, the drive label and the file system of the drive. In order to preserve the folder structure and replace unknown characters in the names of the data being recovered, you will need to select the appropriate menu items responsible for these options. Before completing the image creation, the program allows you to once again view the folders and files selected for saving, and, if necessary, make changes to the file names. To complete ISO creation image, click on the “Create” button.

It is also possible to save recovered data to a remote FTP server using Hetman Partition Recovery. This can be done using the FTP protocol. You can leave the original directory tree structure unchanged. You will need to specify the FTP server address, port, username, password and remote directory. Both passive file download mode and work through a proxy server are supported. In order not to enter the password every time, you can remember it. The password will be stored in clear text in the settings file. At this stage, you can view the files and folders selected for saving and, if necessary, make changes to the file names. To complete uploading files to the FTP server, click on the “Create” button.
