Options and packaging

The box is surprisingly cheap, made of soft white cardboard. It seems that the manufacturer decided to save money on this by stamping identical boxes and changing only the stickers. Remembering what we saw, ZTE gets a minus...

The equipment is banal - USB cable, 1A USB charger, waste paper, and a clip for SIM card slots and memory cards.

Appearance and assembly

When you look at the Blade, it’s immediately clear where the ZTE designers drew inspiration - it’s almost an iPhone 6 with a couple of “chips” from ZTE! Although in general the smartphone certainly looks very harmonious.

On the front side, in addition to the 5-inch screen, there is front camera, light and proximity sensors, and under the screen there are 3 functional touch keys, although in normal times only the “central” circle is visible, which performs the “home” function. Along the edges of the circle there are 2 points, also sensory. The owner can independently change the purpose of each key by swapping them - these are “menu” and “back”. All keys are illuminated in bright blue.

The back cover is boring to the point of disgrace - the ZTE inscription, a camera peephole with a flash and a speaker slot. The cover is completely plastic, over time it will probably become covered with scratches and abrasions, it is better to immediately buy a cover. The back cover is non-removable.

On top of the smartphone there is a 3.5 mm headset jack, on the bottom there is a microphone and a microUSB connector.

On the left are trays for SIM cards and memory cards, on the right are the power-lock and volume control keys.

The body is completely plastic and very light. The smartphone is comfortable to hold in your hand, thanks to its rounded body and thickness of only 7 mm.

The dimensions of the smartphone are standard for a 5-inch smartphone. A little larger than the iPhone 6, a little narrower than the ZTE Red Bull V5 (but noticeably lighter).

The build of the smartphone is excellent, although the plastic creaks when squeezed tightly.

Screen

The smartphone has a 5-inch IPS screen with HD resolution 1280*720, made without an air gap using OGS technology. There is no glare at angles, the screen remains readable in the sun - the brightness is very high.

But the color rendition of the screen is controversial - the colors on the ZTE Red Bull, which is a budget device, are more interesting.
Blade S6 - top and left, Red Bull V5 - bottom and right, respectively.

Screen comparison with ZTE Red Bull V5

Screen protected protective glass(manufacturer unknown) and it reliably protects from scratches - I didn’t manage to scratch it during use, although I used the smartphone without a film and carried it in a regular jacket pocket. Although I managed to crush it easily by putting the smartphone in the back pocket of my jeans and plopping down on the leather seat of the car.

Battery

The ZTE Blade S6 has a 2400 mAh battery. ZTE is a large manufacturer, there is no reason not to trust it. With such a battery, a smartphone with a full charge is enough for a day or a day and a half of work, although with very intensive work it will only last until evening. This must be understood.
I will note here that there is a strong dependence on the firmware version - on firmware version 6, up to 10-15 percent of the battery was consumed overnight, on versions 10 and 11 - only 1-2 percent in the same mode.

Communications ZTE Blade S6

The smartphone operates in 4G networks FDD-LTE 800/900/1800/2100/2600 MHz, that is, Russian 4G support is fully present

Bluetooth 4.0, USB 2.0 with OTG function, GPS are also supported, but NFC is not here.

Navigation in ZTE Blade S6

Since Qualcomm is used, no problems were expected here; processors are traditionally strong in navigation. In addition to GPS, Snapdragon 615 also supports Russian GLONASS and Chinese BeiDou, so the ZTE Blade S6 is doing great with navigation. I won’t even give track records - it leads along the road even in densely built-up areas perfectly, and does not deviate into forests and fields.

Camera ZTE Blade S6

The ZTE Blade S6 uses the well-known Sony Exmor IMX214 module with F2.0 aperture and single-section LED flash. This is one of the coolest modules of the current time, but as always the question is adaptation to specific device and working with firmware.
While the photographs are quite average, maybe over time the manufacturer will correct the firmware and the photos will be better, but for now, when shooting in low light conditions (twilight, night, dark room), the camera begins to “wash” the pictures and loses the clarity of the pictures.

ZTE Blade S6 performance and tests

The ZTE Blade S6 smartphone is built on a 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 CPU. This is a processor with 8 cores - four ARM Cortex-A53 with a frequency of 1.7 GHz and another four ARM Cortex-A53 with a frequency of 1 GHz. 28 nm LP process technology, ARMv8 instruction set. Depending on the load and the operation being performed, either 4 “powerful” cores or 4 “weak” cores are turned on.

Detailed description of the processor

Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 MSM8939 is a mid-range SoC based on ARMv8 for tablets and smartphones running Android OS. This model was introduced in February 2014, it became one of the first 64-bit solutions from Qualcomm. In addition to eight Cortex-A53 processor cores operating at up to 1.8 GHz, there is an integrated Adreno 405 video card with a 2x32 bit memory controller (LPDDR3-1600). The SoC also supports Wi-Fi (802.11ac), Bluetooth 4.0, UMTS and LTE.

Cortex-A53 is the successor to the very popular Cortex-A7 design. In addition to the new 64-bit ARMv8 ISA, the kernels offer many other improvements, such as a branch prediction engine. Thanks to this, performance per clock has significantly increased to a level above Cortex-A9.

The eight cores of the Snapdragon 615 are divided into two quad-core clusters, each optimized for different operating tasks. While one cluster can handle more demanding tasks by operating at up to 1.8 GHz, the other cluster is limited to 1 GHz for power-saving purposes. All eight cores can be active simultaneously, although most applications today are not parallelized to efficiently support that many functional elements. Overall, the Snapdragon 615 has about the same performance as the Snapdragon 600 (Krait).

The integrated Adreno 405 graphics card from the Adreno 400 series has been significantly redesigned, so it now supports DirectX 11.2, including hardware tessellation, OpenGL ES 3.0 and OpenCL 1.2. In addition, graphics performance should be significantly higher than the previous Adreno 305 (Snapdragon 400).

Snapdragon 615 has support for numerous wireless technologies, such as Bluetooth 4.0 and WLAN 802.11a/b/g/n/ac, as well as a Multi-SIM cellular modem with LTE cat support. 4 (up to 150 Mbit), WCDMA, CDMA, EV-DO, TD-SCDMA and GSM/EDGE.

The SoC can process 1080p video using special hardware, outputting a stream of content to displays with a resolution of up to 2560x2048 pixels. A large number of video codecs are now supported, including H.265 (playback). The IPS camera can handle resources up to 21 MP.

The Snapdragon 615 is manufactured using TSMC's 28nm LP process. According to the specifications, the power consumption is such that the SoC can power large smartphones and tablets.

In standard tasks, the smartphone does not slow down and generally works perfectly; in most games there are no problems either. When minimizing large applications, freezes may be noticeable for a second or two, but this is really rare. On the first versions of the firmware, for some reason, sometimes the smartphone sometimes reported a lack of RAM, but this happened extremely rarely. I didn't notice this on the latest versions. In Antutu, the ZTE Blade S6 smartphone scores about 30,000 points.

Test results

Software features of ZTE Blade S6

The smartphone runs on Android 5.0 Lollipop out of the box, and 5.1 should be released soon. On top is the MiFavor shell, a small and lightweight launcher reminiscent of pure Android. Among the additional add-ons - only the ability to control gestures and customize the buttons under the screen. There are no over-the-air updates; you need to dump the firmware file onto a memory card, and the smartphone will update everything on its own.

Multimedia

The speaker of the smartphone is very loud and clear, the voice speaker is also of high quality - you can hear your interlocutor perfectly. The manufacturer assures that the smartphone has a separate audio chip, the sound of the smartphone is definitely good, the sound detail is high, the smartphone can easily replace an iPod.
The Music app has a Hi-Fi button. Why it is needed, I don’t understand.

Conclusions

The new smartphone from ZTE turned out to be very nice - cute, light, powerful and with 2 SIM. For now, some “dampness” is taking its toll, apparently they were in a hurry to release it faster, and therefore, when purchasing, it is better to immediately update the smartphone to latest version firmware, fortunately this is done very easily and the manufacturer quickly corrects any flaws found in the firmware. One could write down the “low” screen resolution as a minus, but at 5 inches it clearly doesn’t look that way, but FullHD would obviously consume even more battery. The only thing that is definitely confusing about the smartphone is the price and the plastic case; for $200 it would obviously sell for much better.

Pros:
- Powerful processor
- 2 SIM with LTE support
- GLONASS support
- Thin and light
- Separate audio chip for music
- Android 5.0 out of the box

Cons
- Medium battery
- Plastic housing
- High price

Features (not pros, not cons, subjective for everyone)
- HD screen resolution

In general, the smartphone can be recommended to those who buy a smartphone for a long time (with the caveat of the need for a case for the case) - the power will be enough for another couple of years, as well as the stated characteristics, and the manufacturer’s support allows us to hope for a quick correction of software errors.

Accelerometer(or G-sensor) - sensor of the device’s position in space. As a main function, the accelerometer is used to automatically change the orientation of the image on the display (vertical or horizontal). Also, the G-sensor is used as a pedometer; it can control various functions of the device by turning or shaking.
Gyroscope- a sensor that measures rotation angles relative to a fixed coordinate system. Capable of measuring rotation angles in several planes simultaneously. A gyroscope together with an accelerometer allows you to accurately determine the position of the device in space. Devices that use only accelerometers have lower measurement accuracy, especially when moving quickly. Also, the capabilities of the gyroscope can be used in modern games for mobile devices.
Light sensor- a sensor that sets the optimal brightness and contrast values for a given light level. The presence of a sensor allows you to increase the battery life of the device.
Proximity sensor- a sensor that detects when the device is close to your face during a call, turns off the backlight and locks the screen, preventing accidental clicks. The presence of a sensor allows you to increase the battery life of the device.
Geomagnetic sensor- a sensor for determining the direction of the world in which the device is directed. Tracks the orientation of the device in space relative to the magnetic poles of the Earth. The information received from the sensor is used in mapping programs for terrain orientation.
Atmospheric pressure sensor- sensor for precise measurement of atmospheric pressure. It is part of the GPS system, allows you to determine altitude above sea level and speed up location determination.
Touch ID- fingerprint identification sensor.

Satellite navigation:

GPS(Global Positioning System - global positioning system) - a satellite navigation system that provides measurements of distance, time, speed and determines the location of objects anywhere on Earth. The system is developed, implemented and operated by the US Department of Defense. The basic principle of using the system is to determine location by measuring distances to an object from points with known coordinates - satellites. The distance is calculated by the delay time of signal propagation from sending it by the satellite to receiving it by the antenna of the GPS receiver.
GLONASS(Global Navigation Satellite System) - Soviet and Russian satellite navigation system, developed by order of the USSR Ministry of Defense. The measurement principle is similar to the American GPS navigation system. GLONASS is designed for operational navigation and timing support for land, sea, air and space-based users. The main difference from the GPS system is that GLONASS satellites in their orbital motion do not have resonance (synchrony) with the rotation of the Earth, which provides them with greater stability.

There are a huge variety of smartphones today. AND price category They also have different ones: from too expensive to quite budget ones. Against the backdrop of all this diversity, the product of the Chinese (and don’t be afraid of this word) company ZTE - Blade S6, the review of which is presented here, especially stands out.

A little about the manufacturer

Almost everyone knows the popular modern saying that the whole world is made in China. Therefore, you should not be afraid that the box with this or that product says made in China. Moreover, industrial branded China differs significantly from handicraft products collected “on the knee”. Likewise, the company ZTE, whose motto was the phrase “Tomorrow never waits,” quickly burst into Russian market, is a branded smartphone manufacturing company. And in Russia it is becoming increasingly popular.

Smartphone characteristics

Naturally, the first thing that interests a more or less experienced owner modern smartphone, - what the device is equipped with, what it is capable of. And in this regard, the ZTE Blade S6 has very, very decent characteristics. Under the plastic, non-removable body painted to look like metal, quite powerful and solid components are hidden.

CPU

For those who are just about to purchase their first smartphone, the name of the processor, as well as its capabilities, is just a collection of letters and words. But for an experienced user, it is rather something like a code word, by which one can determine how solid the device is in front of him. And here the ZTE Blade S6 smartphone does not disappoint. It has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 processor. It is worth noting that this, according to the manufacturer, is the first eight-core processor of a 64-bit system. And, believe me, this is really solid hardware. With 2 GB of RAM, the smartphone turns into a real gaming center that can handle any advanced and modern game. Not to mention the fact that the concepts of “freezing” and “glitching” generally disappear from the owner’s vocabulary in relation to his gadget. The ZTE Blade S6 (which we're currently reviewing) handles multitasking and heavy gaming really well.

Memory and its capabilities

The ZTE Blade S6 smartphone, the characteristics of which we are considering, has built-in 16 GB of free memory. Of these, only a little over 13 GB are available to the user, since operating system still takes on a lot. For those who do not have enough space, there is a slot for a memory card. Naturally, microSD. Supports up to 64 GB. That is, with some effort, a smartphone can replace a full-fledged one personal computer. Not to mention the tablet, by the way. What’s nice is that all applications can be transferred to a memory card, so as not to keep them on the “native” one. And this makes using the device even more enjoyable.

Appearance

Perhaps this too important criterion when choosing a smartphone. Especially for modern young people and girls who want not only a productive device, but also a beautiful one in appearance. The ZTE Blade S6, reviews of which will be somewhat lower, does not disappoint. Even though the device looks a lot like the Apple gadget iPhone 6, they still don’t have much in common. And those who held a real Apple iPhone 6 in their hands will no longer confuse it with anything. So, the ZTE Blade S6 compares favorably with its Android counterparts due to its protective glass. It does not rest against the side edges of the smartphone, like many models, which makes operation touch screen more pleasant and comfortable - your finger does not touch the sides. The body is made of monolithic (non-removable) plastic, but of very high quality, which does not creak or slip in the hand. And there are no fingerprints left on it.

Cameras

Many modern phones are equipped with a camera. Even the most budget ones. And many fairly expensive smartphones, by the way, have very mediocre cameras built in. But not in the Blade S6. There really is something to be proud of here. The ZTE Blade S6, which we are currently reviewing, is equipped with two cameras of very decent quality. The front one with a resolution of 5 megapixels is ideal for high-quality selfies and video calls. And it really produces the declared 5 megapixels, which is good. The 13 megapixel front camera will give odds to a budget camera! Yes, there are some glitches, sometimes autofocus doesn’t work correctly, and macro photography doesn’t always function smoothly either. But in general, it depends more on how skilled hands are using the camera, rather than on the camera itself. If we compare it with some flagship well-known model, then the same Samsung Galaxy S4, with the same 13 megapixel camera, works more clearly. But the price category at the start of sales for the models is very different, so you shouldn’t expect a super-exorbitantly fabulous result. ZTE's camera gets its money's worth. And the model has enough gadgets for shooting; no additional processing application is required.

Equipment

There can be no complaints about her. It is very standard: a smartphone, charger(aka USB cable), instructions, SIM card clip. The back panel of the device is quite boring: the brand name, place of production. Therefore, it is also often compared to the iPhone 6. But still, this is fundamental different devices, which should not be forgotten. The headset, like other ZTE models, is not included in the package. And to be honest, standard headphones always leave much to be desired. The exception, perhaps, is Apple, where headsets are presented at a decent level.

Results and review: everything about everything

So, what can we say about the ZTE Blade S6, the review of which took so long? This is a very worthy model with a five-inch screen. The coating, by the way, is oleophobic - it does not leave fingerprints. Although you will still need a film, because it protects against scratches during very active use. In addition to the already familiar five-inch screen, the smartphone has two very good cameras, fairly powerful hardware, and a nice design. And, despite the fact that the candy bar is made of plastic, it looks very beautiful and stylish. The device lies very comfortably in the hand, both in the right and left. It does not try to slip out during careless movement, so you can use it without fear before purchasing a cover.

The smartphone is not equipped with the most powerful battery at 2400 mAh. It will still not be enough for full use, although it will be enough for daylight hours. And, of course, the latest Android! Version 5.0 allows the device to “fly” during operation without any lags or freezes. ZTE Blade S6 Silver (beautiful silver shade) is a truly worthy model to use, especially since after the start of sales the price dropped slightly, approaching a manageable level of 11-12 thousand rubles. And, of course, you can’t compare a smartphone with a well-known “Apple” brand, because what they have in common is only size and color, but the components are fundamentally different.

Accessories

What else do smartphone owners care about? Availability of fashionable accessories for them. And here the ZTE Blade S6 does not disappoint. It won’t be difficult to find a cover for it on a popular Chinese trading platform. As well as a fashionable bumper, lining and rear silicone insert. By the way, tempered glass can also be purchased for this model, so that in the event of an unexpected fall, it is not the screen and the plastic case of the device that are damaged, but only this glass itself. By the way, Apple gadgets also have this system protection, which again is not included in the kit. There is no need to talk about headphones - the 3.5 mm jack allows you to choose any suitable shape, color and size.

Customers' opinions

Owners of ZTE Blade S6 leave a wide variety of reviews about their smartphone. Some people like all the available functions and features, while others are not too happy with certain aspects. In general, buyers remain satisfied - the device functions excellently for its money. Two SIM cards work clearly, the sound is acceptable, the cameras are decent, the operating system is without lags. What else do you need in a modern device? The ZTE Blade S6 Silver, whose reviews from experts also remain excellent, deserves attention when choosing a reliable and reliable smartphone for daily use. The only thing that needs improvement, both in the opinion of professionals and in the opinion of users, is the battery, which is still not enough for full use.

"Light" version

Not every manufacturer, after releasing a more or less successful model, decides to create a budget and “stripped-down” analogue. But ZTE did it anyway. Perhaps not in vain, but, as sales practice has shown, Russians still don’t really like the “light” version. So, what has the ZTE Blade S6 Lite lost in comparison with its more “experienced” brother? Firstly, the camera. If the front one remained at 5 megapixels for cool and clear selfies, as well as acceptable video communication, then the main one lost these same 5 megapixels, becoming only 8 megapixels instead of 13 megapixels. On the one hand, this does not interfere much, on the other hand, the difference in the images is striking.

Secondly, the device lost its powerful processor and eight cores. Instead, there are four, but still fully functional, cores and a processor. Not the newest, but quite time-tested. This, of course, affected the performance, but not so much - the smartphone does not glitch, works without critical errors or glitches, although it sometimes freezes in heavy and demanding games. So the settings of the latter will still have to be removed from the maximum.

Thirdly, the memory is also limited. Instead of 2 GB of RAM - there is already 1, and instead of 16 GB of internal - only 8. Maps microSD memory Also only supported up to 32 GB instead of 64.

Fourthly, the screen coating, although still oleophobic, is somehow different. Fingerprints are becoming more and more visible and are becoming less easily erased. But the screen size remained unchanged - five inches.

Is "light" worth the money?

The cost of S6 Lite today is only a couple of thousand rubles less than the full-fledged, uncut version. Therefore, when choosing between these two models, you should not skimp too much. If we compare the ZTE Blade S6 Lite with others budget models, then he is definitely no worse. It’s not difficult to find accessories for it; the smartphone gives its money’s worth. I can confidently recommend it for purchase. Although it is worth remembering that a device that is “stripped down” in terms of functionality will not be as productive and fast. However, many buyers do not need this now.

Version with a plus sign

In 2015, almost every smartphone manufacturer considered it necessary to release not just a successful model, but also its analogue marked “plus”. ZTE were no exception. Perhaps they were right, because more and more often people began to require not just good smartphones, but also large to make them more convenient to use. This is how the ZTE Blade S6 Plus with a diagonal of 5.5 inches was released. Big, beautiful, powerful, with a 3000 mAh battery! Yes, it was a very successful move - to increase the battery capacity so much that you don’t have to rush from socket to socket, so that you can normally surf the Internet or play games. In general, the S6 Plus version is described as follows: like the S6, only bigger. And indeed: the filling is all the same as that of the original model. But due to the larger screen and battery, using a smartphone is much more comfortable and enjoyable. By the way, its cost is not much more - 2-3 thousand rubles more expensive than the Blade S6, active SIM cards remain in place - work without complaints or failures.
